Certifications: RHIT or RHIA required
Experience:
Minimum of five years of experience supporting senior leadership or managing HIM operations
Experience with project management tools and managing competing priorities
Experience supporting audits, documentation processes, and compliance initiatives
Experience with board or committee support and virtual meeting coordination preferred
Healthcare or public sector experience preferred
Must-Haves:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
RHIT or RHIA certification
Ability to reside in or relocate to Los Alamos, NM within 45 days
Strong knowledge of healthcare regulatory compliance including HIPAA
Nice-To-Haves:
Prior experience in an acute care setting
Experience training and developing staff, including performance management and corrective action
Job Description:
Our client is seeking a Health Information Management Director to serve as a key leader responsible for overseeing all HIM operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and maintaining the integrity and accuracy of patient health information. This role is both strategic and hands-on, supporting organizational objectives while driving operational excellence across the department.
The Director will be responsible for directing departmental activities and resources, developing and implementing goals, plans, and standards aligned with clinical, administrative, legal, and ethical requirements. This includes oversight of patient care documentation, information technologies, service levels, and complaint management to achieve performance and quality outcomes.
Responsibilities include planning and monitoring staffing activities such as hiring, orientation, performance evaluation, disciplinary actions, and continuing education initiatives. The Director will also prepare, monitor, and evaluate departmental budgets and ensure operations remain within allocated funding.
This role requires coordination and oversight of internal and external audits, fostering a professional environment that encourages growth, and ensuring the department remains aligned with its critical role in the continuum of care. The Director will maintain regular and reliable attendance and perform additional duties as needed.
Additional responsibilities include working with internal and external stakeholders including staff, patients, vendors, and partners, while handling sensitive and confidential information. A strong understanding of healthcare regulatory compliance, including HIPAA, is requ red along with the ability to apply policies and procedures effectively.
Supervisory responsibilities include managing staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, performance management, and administering corrective actions to ensure quality standards are met.
