The Salaam Club of New York founded in 1945 in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, by Lebanese and Syrian immigrants and UN diplomats, is a cultural fraternity dedicated to promoting good fellowship, better understanding, and charitable activities among men of Middle Eastern descent. For over 80 years, the Club has supported community service and cultural heritage.

The Scholarship

This scholarship, administered through the Salaam Club Foundation, empowers talented undergraduate students of Middle Eastern heritage to pursue higher education and contribute positively to their communities. The Award: $10,000 one-time grant for tuition, books, educational expenses, or related costs during the upcoming academic year

Eligibility

To be considered for The Salaam Club of New York Scholarship, applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

• Middle Eastern heritage;
• Current high school senior OR full-time undergraduate student enrolled at an accredited U.S. college or university;
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0;
• Demonstrated commitment to community service and/or leadership; and
• Preference given to residents of the NY/NJ area.

Post-Award Expectations:

As a recipient of the Salaam Club of New York Scholarship, winners are expected to remain engaged with the Club community by honoring the spirit of "paying it forward."

This includes:

• Attending the Gala/Annual Dinner for recognition and brief remarks;
• Being featured in Club communications (newsletter, social media, website, annual report);
• Mentoring younger members (1–2 sessions/year);
• Speaking at a youth event or recruitment outreach (1–2 times); and
• Volunteering at one signature event per year.

Application

Eligible applicants must complete this official application form in full, which requires the following:

• Personal and contact information;
• Current academic status, school name, major, and expected graduation year;
• Cumulative GPA and uploaded transcript (official or unofficial);
• Resume or CV (PDF preferred);
• Two letters of recommendation (name, title/relationship, email, and uploaded letter required for each);
• Three essays (maximum 500 words each) covering: (1) the applicant's connection to Middle Eastern heritage and how it has shaped their values; (2) the applicant's academic and career goals and how this scholarship will support their journey; and (3) how the Salaam Club's founding story of perseverance, education, and the American Dream resonates with the applicant's own life experience; and
• List of colleges/universities to which the applicants have been accepted, with optional upload of acceptance letters.

** Prior to the disbursement of any funds, selected recipients will be required to submit verified proof of current enrollment at an accredited institution, along with a fully executed release form and grant agreement, as a condition of receiving the award.
