  • Inland Empire Swimming All-Star Teams rely on the commitment and support of Assistant Coaches in order for team travel and competition to be possible for our athletes.

It is essential that anyone submitting an application to be an Assistant Coach understand and agree to the following:

    1. Coaching Duties

Assistant coaches are responsible for the encouragement and support of athletes in their preparation to compete. This includes active supervision of warmups, helping athletes identify goals for each swim, and providing positive feedback following their swim. Assistant coaches will support the IES team goals and expectations as defined by the IES Head Coach, in line with the IES Code of Conduct.

Assistant coaches must be willing to work as partners in coaching with other IES assistant coaches. This includes the expectation that assistant coaches will share lodging and travel with other assistant coaches, as appropriate (eg sharing a hotel room with another coach of the same gender).

    2. Supervision Duties & Support of IES Travel Team

One of the primary duties of an Assistant Coach is the supervision of athletes. It is an IES Team Travel requirement that athletes are appropriately supervised at ALL times.

IES Travel Teams have the assistance of team chaperones in the supervision of athletes but it is the responsibility of all IES Travel Team adults including coaches to ensure that athletes are appropriately supervised.

Assisting with supervision may include duties such as:

    • helping to organize athletes for team travel each day to and from the hotel
    • service of meals and snacks
    • assisting with room checks at night
    • additional duties as needed to help our athletes be at their very best!

The role of the Assistant Coach requires patience, kindness, and a calm demeanor while working with our IES athletes and chaperones. Being an IES Zones Assistant Coach it is not an easy job, but is a highly rewarding opportunity to support our IES athletes!

    3. Application Requirements

All Assistant Coaches must meet the following criteria:

    1. Complete and return a signed copy of the IES Code of Conduct & Team Travel Policy as part of the Application.
    2. Be a USA Swimming registered coach member in good standing (all certifications must be current through August 9, 2026, the last day of team travel)
    3. Pass a DMV Motor Vehicle Report

Item 1, above, is required. The IES Code of Conduct and Team Travel Policy is posted on the IES website under the 2026 IES Zone Team tab. It can also be completed using this link (CLICK HERE)

NOTE: Item 3 is not required to submit an application; however, if selected as an Assistant Coach, applicants will only be accepted on a conditional basis until this item is completed.

Any fees associated with obtaining the required certifications are the sole responsibility of the applicant, and will not be reimbursed by IES.

If selected as an Assistant Coach, the Final Deadline for completion of Item 3 is June 1, 2026, or the applicant will not be eligible to be an IES Assistant Coach. Applicants may be asked to submit an updated DMV report within 30 days of team travel.

    4. Coaching Stipend

Assistant coaches will receive a stipend of $1,000.00 in addition to the covered expenses listed below. Assistant coaches will be retained as independent contractors and are responsible for all local, state, and federal taxes and fees related to personal income.

    5. Expenses

All travel, lodging, and meal costs (the team eats together for team meals) for Assistant Coaches will be covered as part of team expenses.

Coaches are responsible for the following expenses:

    • Any fees associated with obtaining the required certifications listed above
