“The river is like an organism, it is internally self-adjusting. It is also RESILIENT and can absorb changes imposed upon it, but not without limit.”
-- Lana Leopold from "A Reverence for Rivers", 1977
"RESILIENCE" is the theme for our 2027 Eno River Calendar.
On July 6th, 2025, Tropical Storm Chantal left a wake of devastation across central North Carolina including historic flooding of the Eno River basin. Mere hours after wrapping up the 47th Festival for the Eno celebration at West Point on the Eno, our community witnessed the sobering power of Nature as unrelenting rainfall resulted in unprecedented high water levels. For some areas along the Eno, riverbanks were left unrecognizable and trails disappeared into the surging currents.
What has RESILIENCE looked liked to you? Perhaps in the land's endurance to adapt and reform. Perhaps in the spirit of communities coming together to offer help and healing. Perhaps in celebrating the long history of the people who inhabited the Eno before us. Perhaps in the unprecedented destruction and disfiguring of steadfast paths and river routes. Perhaps in the perserverence of volunteers and staff to reopen the park.
We can't wait to see what Eno River inspirations you choose to share.
