Award Criteria
Purpose
To honor a Post member who demonstrates exceptional dedication to the mission, values, and programs of the American Legion through service, leadership, and community impact.
Eligibility Requirements
- Current member in good standing
- Member for at least one full year
- Not serving as current Post Commander (recommended for fairness)
- Actively participates in Post activities
Evaluation Criteria (100 Points Total)
1. Post Participation & Involvement (0–25 points)
- Regular attendance at meetings and events
- Active participation in Post functions
- Volunteer hours contributed
- Key Question: How involved is the member in day‑to‑day Post operations?
2. Leadership & Initiative (0–20 points)
- Holds or has held leadership roles
- Takes initiative without being asked
- Helps organize or lead programs
- Key Question: Do they lead by example and step up when needed?
3. Support of American Legion Programs (0–20 points)
- Engagement in Legion programs (VA&R, Children & Youth, Americanism, National Security, etc.)
- Participation in Boys State, Oratorical, and similar initiatives
- Key Question: How well do they support the Legion’s core mission areas?
4. Community Service & Impact (0–15 points)
- Involvement in community service
- Volunteer work outside the Post
- Builds positive relationships for the Legion
- Key Question: How do they represent the Legion in the community?
5. Character, Values & Esprit de Corps (0–10 points)
- Demonstrates integrity, respect, and professionalism
- Promotes camaraderie and unity
- Embodies Legion values
- Key Question: Do they reflect what it means to be a Legionnaire?
6. Overall Impact / Above & Beyond (0–10 points)
- Consistently exceeds expectations
- Makes a lasting impact on the Post
- Known as “the one who always shows up”
- Key Question: Do they stand out among their peers?
Nomination Process
Any Post member may submit a nomination.
Submissions should include:
- Nominee’s name
- Summary of contributions
- Specific examples of service and impact
