  • The Society has assigned a credit value to the courses and activites listed in this form. The credit value and status of these courses may change as modifications are made by the organization. As such when these changes happen, or new programs are developed this list may be updated without notice.

    During your 24 month recertification period accumulate 3 credits by Instructing training programs, participating in courses, clinics, professional development, and a few other options. 3 credits are required to recertify, regardless of how many leadership awards you hold, or are recertifying simultaneously. A minimum of 1 credit must be from the indicated Column A, while the remaining 2 may be from Column B or any combination.

    Examiner recertification must also include a minimum of 1 credit from Column C.

    Instructor Trainers must have taught at least 1 Instructor Level Course.

    To request recognition of a training event eg. Inservice, or professional development course please email the society at: Training@lifesavingns.ca. Ensure you have listed a validating person and their contact information, to avoid any delay in processing.

    You may not "save" extra credits for the next time you need to recertify, after you submit your credit card, any additional credits expire and you begin your new 24 month points period at zero credits.

    Columns with items that say "Any Approved Agency" here is the Approved Agency listing: Canadian Red Cross, Saint Johns Ambulance, Ski Patrol, Heart & Stroke, YMCA for Instruction & Coaching.

    Fees for recertification will generally be updated annually with our price list, please review for this years fees. Once this form has been submitted, Payments can be entransferred to experts@lifesavingns.ca (make a button/ link) or you can pay via credit card by calling 1-902-477-6168 or stop by in person during office hours.

  • What Leadership Certifications are you looking to recertify?*
  • You must have a minimum of one point from Column A for any recertifcation, the remaining points coming from a combination of Column B and Column C.

    Examiner recertifications require a minimum of one point from Column A and one from Column C.

    Instructor Trainers must have taught at least 1 Instructor Level course.

  • Column A: 

    Teach one of the following complete courses: Swim for Life program, Swim Patrol program, Swim to Survive or Swim to Survive Plus, Bronze Star, Bronze Medallion, BWFA, CPR any level, Coaching JLC or LSS Sport Club. (1 Point)

    Teach one of the following complete courses: Lifesaving Sport official (any option), Bronze Cross, IWFA, CPR -HCP, Airway Management, Assistant Instructor, National Lifeguard (any option), Water Rescue for First Responders. SEE Auditor, Present a session at the Society's request, Coach a team at a Provincial, National or International Competition. (2 Points)

    Teach one of the following complete courses: Swim Instructor, Lifesaving Instructor, First Aid Instructor, National Lifeguard Instructor, Trainer, Lifesaving Coach Level 1, Officials Instructor, a LSS mandated update, a LSS clinic. (3 Points)

    Apprentice on an Instructor Course (Any Level). (3 Points)

    Appointment as a National Trainer (1st time). (3 Points)

  • Column B: 

    Complete a Branch Approved Inservice, Conference or Symposium,Volunteer: at a LSS sport event, as a victim on a course etc. (1 Point)

    Pass: Bronze Cross recert, IWFA original or recert, CPR-HCP, Airway Management, National Lifeguard ( any option, original or recert), SEE Auditor, Community Official, Emergency Response Official, Open Water Official, Meet Manager & Referee, Pool Official Other Agencies: Pass Artistic Swimming Trilliums 1-4 or Medals Bronze, Silver, gold; YMCA Leader, Assistant Instructor, Assistant Coach; Canadian Power and Sail Squadron Boat Pro, Ride Smart or higher. (1 Point)

    Participate as a Member of LSS: Board of Directors (Branch or National) , Athlete Representative, Commission Member. (1 Point)

    Judge or Official at one Lifesaving Sport Event. (1 Point)

    Full Attendance at a National LSS Conference. (1 Point)

    Mentor an Apprentice. (2 Points)

    Pass: First Aid Instructor Certificaiton (Any approved Agency), Swim Instructor (Any approved Agency), Lifesaving Instructor, Lifesaving Coaching Level 1 National Lifeguard Instructor, Instructor Trainer Appointment (Any level and approved agency)Other Agencies: Childsafe Instructor, Recreational Artistic Swimming Instructor, NCCP Technical Level 1,2,3; YMCA Swim Instructor, Coach; Canoeing Instructor; Snorkel Diver Instructor, SCUBA Instructor. (2 Points)

    Appointment as an Examiner (Bronze or NL). (2 Points)

    Officiate at a Provincial, National or International LSS Sport Championship. (2 Points)

     

  • Column C:

    Examine a Bronze or National Lifeguard (original or recertification). (1 Point)

    Judge or Official at one Lifesaving Sport Event. (1 Point)

    Appointment as an Examiner ( Bronze or NL). (2 Points)

    Teach one of the following complete courses: IWFA, Airway Management, National Lifeguard, Examiner Course. (2 Points)

    Pass First Aid Instructor Certification (Any approved Agency). (2 Points)

    Pass National Lifeguard Instructor. (2 Points)

    Instructor Trainer Appointment (Any level, any approved agency). (2 Points)

    Certified Coach (any agency). (2 Points)

    Teach one of the following complete courses: Swim Instructor, Lifesaving Instructor, First Aid Instructor, National Lifeguard Instructor. (3 Points)
