Eligibility Requirements
1. Must be a graduating high school student from a minoritized group -OR- a current undergraduate student from a minoritized group (including but not limited to racial/ethnic minority, gender minority, and sexual minority).
2. Must be pursuing an undergraduate degree at an established college, university, or vocational school.
Required Materials
1. High school transcript -OR- most recent college transcript
2. A personal essay (250-750 words) describing the following:
- your advocacy/activism work to date. Please do not simply list organizations you belong, rather tell what you were trying to accomplish, when you did, and what you learned from the experience
- your educational plan. What degree(s) are you seeking, college(s), etc.
3. Two letters of recommendation from teachers, school administrators, or community leaders who know you well.
Please note, incomplete applications will not be processed
Selection Criteria
Selection for the scholarship is based on the following criteria:
- Demonstrated advocacy or activism in the community.
- Academic achievement
- Clear and accurate digital communication (no typos, complete sentences)
- Community service, volunteering, and/or work experience
Award
1. The 2026 Jacquelin Waugh Foster Scholarship is $1,000
2. The recipient of the scholarship will be notified by a member of the NAACP scholarship committee and a formal presentation of award will be at the Springfield Juneteenth Event on Saturday, June 20. Recepients are requested to be present at event
3. Upon acceptance of admission and attendance into the selected school, the NAACP will issue a one-time check for the academic year.
