Buncombe County Family Law Advice Clinic Registration Form
  • Buncombe County Family Law Advice Clinic Registration Form

  • Through the NCBA Pro Se Family Law Advice Clinic, paralegal and attorney volunteers will assist eligible clients with any of the following:

    1) Brief Advice for family law matters;

    2) Complete the forms needed to file a pro se custody complaint in Buncombe County District Court;

    3) Complete the forms needed to file an answer to an already filed custody complaint in Buncombe County District Court.

    Individuals who have already filed for custody or who have been served with a custody complaint may attend the clinic to speak with an attorney at no cost about the details of their case. Individuals may also speak with an attorney about divorce, alimony, or equitable distribution. However, there is no guarantee that any documents will be completed by the clinic volunteers under any of these circumstances.

    You will get the most out of your clinic appointment if you agree to do an intake with a volunteer paralegal by phone or Zoom BEFORE the date of the clinic. Only Buncombe County residents or biological parents of children who live in Buncombe County are eligible for this clinic. This clinic CANNOT serve you if your parental rights have been terminated. It is preferred that you complete an interview by phone in the weeks prior to the clinic. Please indicate in your registration whether you agree to this interview. If you do, shortly after you register for the clinic, you will receive an email or phone call from a volunteer paralegal to complete your interview.

    On the day of the clinic, you will need to appear in person at the Renaissance Hotel in Asheville (31 Woodfin Street, Asheville, NC), between 10 AM and 12:30 PM. If you arrive after 12:30 PM, we may not be able to serve you. Due to space constraints, we ask that you bring no more than one other person with you. Please try to arrange for childcare on the day of your appointment, if possible.
