    About us

    English UK is the national membership association of accredited English language teaching (ELT) centres in the UK. We are a UK-registered charity representing over 270 accredited centres across the private and public sectors. We champion quality in UK ELT, support our members through international promotion and partnerships, and represent the sector to government and key stakeholders.


    The role

    The Director of Market Development is a senior leadership role responsible for shaping and overseeing English UK’s market development strategy. Operating at director level, the postholder sets direction, advises senior colleagues and boards, and represents English UK externally with authority and credibility.


    Key responsibilities

    • Lead the development and oversight of English UK’s market development strategy
    • Provide strategic advice on priority markets and international engagement
    • Build and maintain senior-level relationships with international stakeholders and partners
    • Support English UK members to respond to growth opportunities and find new routes to market, including via consortium bidding
    • Represent English UK at key UK and international meetings and events
    • Ensure the English UK market insight schemes support the market development strategy
    • Lead on the development and implementation of an action plan for UK ELT to support delivery of the UK Government’s International Education Strategy
    • Line management of the market development and insights manager
    • Be an active and engaged member of the senior leadership team, working collaboratively with fellow directors and the Chief Executive to help shape organisational strategy and support cross team-delivery and effective decision making
    • Provide clear reporting to boards and ensure activity is aligned with organisational mission, vision, values and strategic objectives.


    Who we’re looking for

    You will bring senior-level experience of international markets and partnerships, and extensive knowledge of the UK ELT sector. You will be comfortable operating in a visible leadership role. You will be tenacious in identifying and seeking out new routes to market and growth opportunities, and you will be experienced in facilitating consortium bidding. You will be a strong and confident communicator with a proven record of building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, particularly in government. You will be a strategic thinker and will have knowledge of the UK Government’s International Education Strategy and the organisational structures involved in its delivery.
