• Contribute to a Book on Online Harassment & Snark Culture

I’m currently working on a book about online harassment, “snark” culture, and internet commentary spaces. This project looks at these environments from all sides whether you’ve been talked about, or have participated in discussing others online. This is not a book specifically about me, the author, in any way. It is about snark as a broader concept, how it functions, why it exists, and why people engage in it. I’m not asking why you dislike any one individual including myself. I’m asking you to think about snark as a whole: what draws you to it, what role it plays in your life, and how it shapes your perspective of others and yourself. I’m especially interested in how these spaces affect mental health, sense of community, and personal behavior, as well as what motivates people to participate in them in the first place. A large part of this book is dedicated to real stories from people who have experienced online hate, dogpiling, or public scrutiny in any form. You do not need to be an influencer or public figure, if you’ve been affected, your voice matters. You’re also welcome to share from the other side. If you participate in snark or commentary spaces, I’d love to hear about your experiences too, what it gives you, how it impacts you, and why you engage with it. You can share in whatever way feels safest to you. That can be a full story or personal experience, a short reflection or quote, or something informal, messy, or unfinished. Please include a name to credit, an internet @ handle, or “anonymous” if you’d like to remain anonymous. You can share as much or as little as you’re comfortable with. Everything will be handled with care and respect. This section of the book is about documenting impact, not deciding who was right or wrong. It exists to help people understand what these experiences actually feel like from all perspectives and participants. Thank you for being here and for trusting this space.
