• The 2060 Fells Point Flood Agreement: A Climate Design Workshop

  • The year is 2060. The predictions were wrong—Fells Point is permanently under nine feet of water. The multi-million dollar concrete seawalls built in the 2020s have crumbled. But the neighborhood didn't die; it detached. We stopped fighting the water and learned to live with it, using floating architecture and off-the-grid infrastructure.

You are invited to the Amphibious Council. In this fast-paced, 90-minute interactive online workshop, you will step into the shoes of a 2060 Fells Point resident. But humans aren't the only ones at the table. You might be assigned the role of a floating pub owner, a historic preservationist, or even a local Eastern Oyster, a Black-Crowned Night Heron, or the Inner Harbor Water itself.

Together, we will use a digital whiteboard to negotiate how to share our flooded streets, build floating habitats, and resolve conflicts without building walls.

Why are we doing this? While this scenario is set in the future, the goal is very real. We will use the wild, creative ideas generated in this workshop to draft actual, citizen-led policy recommendations for how Baltimore should adapt to climate change today.

No design, planning or architecture experience is required. Just bring your imagination!

    A few important notes:

    • No experience necessary: You do not need any prior background in design, futures thinking, architecture, or urban planning. All you need is a desire to have fun and use your imagination!
    • Language: The workshop will be conducted in English, but with a warm, welcoming expectation that this is not everyone's first language. We are keeping things simple, visual, and collaborative.
    • Space is highly limited: To ensure everyone gets a chance to speak and participate, each session is capped at just 6 to 8 people. Please register for only ONE of the two options below.
