Thank you for your interest in the Jacksonville Humane Society's (JHS) Compassion Club! This is a 5-week volunteer program that dives into the 4 themes of compassion and explores different career opportunities at JHS. Participants must complete a final research project and presentation to receive their volunteer hours and graduate from the program. This application is for prospective volunteers ages 13-15 interested in giving back to their community by volunteering at the Jacksonville Humane Society.
Submission of this application form does not guarantee registration for this program or a membership for Compassion Club.
We ask that prospective volunteers complete this application with a parent/legal guardian.
Expectations:
- Maintain an open-minded, collaborative, and "pawsitive" attitude
- Commit to 5 weeks of scheduled 2 hour in-person meetings with minimal absences
- Be able to commit time dedicated outside of the club for project completion
- Show up to scheduled meetings reliably and on time
- Be comfortable interacting with a diverse population of dogs and cats
- Have an interest in learning more about careers in animal welfare and/or veterinary care
- Show up with appropriate attire (closed-toe shoes, comfortable clothing)
Benefits:
- Students who complete the program will gain valuable leadership, presentation, and collaboration skills.
- Students who participate in the program will acquire knowledge and skills geared toward careers in animal welfare and/or veterinary care.
- Students who complete the program will receive 15 community service hours after graduation.
- Students who complete the program will also be given first consideration for the Youth Volunteer program at the Jacksonville Humane Society when they turn 16.
