The USMC Collegium is the primary of the highest governing bodies at SMC. This position will provide the students with the full experience of being a board member at a young age. As a member of the collegium, you will engage fully in the responsibilities and mindset of a board member. This role requires you to immerse yourself in the decision-making process, adopting the perspective necessary to make informed and strategic decisions for the university. Some board decision making activities include but are not limited to; setting the university’s strategic plan, setting and approving the USMC annual budget, and working on high level university policies.
Confidentiality is crucial in this role. You will handle highly sensitive information and sign contracts that require discretion and trustworthiness. Although you may have valid concerns as a student, your decisions must go beyond individual interests, focusing instead on the broader needs of current and future students, faculty, staff, and the university as a whole.
Serving on the board is one of the most influential roles at the university, offering a unique opportunity to incorporate the student perspective into high-level discussions among the university administration. However, this comes with the challenge of ensuring your decisions remain unbiased and benefit the entire university. Your holistic approach will contribute significantly to shaping the university’s future.
