  • Overview

  • These Volunteer Policies have been developed to provide guidelines about volunteer policies and procedures for The Cleo Bailey Experiment. These policies are intended to ensure fair and consistent treatment of all volunteers. It is the intention of the organization to foster an atmosphere of mutual respect, non-discrimination, and trust. Additionally these guidelines are subject to modification, amendment or revocation at any time, without advance notice.
  • Code of Conduct

  • We welcome participation in the garden by all community members, groups, and associations as well as visitors to the area. When participating in the garden activities or if simply visiting the garden, please abide by the Garden Code of Conduct as set below:
    • Participants are asked to be respectful of other gardeners and not act in any way that could spoil the enjoyment of the space for others
    • Garden activities undertaken in the community garden should be done under consultation from: CBE Leadership Team. This includes: Zephaniah & Whitney Smith; Kale Hilley.
    • For safety reasons, gardeners working alone should only undertake light gardening tasks appropriate to their abilities
    • All garden tools and equipment should be used only for the job they are designed for and returned clean and in good condition at the end of the gardening activity.
    • Pests and disease are managed in line with Integrated Pest Management principles (i.e. natural, environmental, and biological controls). The use of harmful chemicals in the garden is not approved.
    • Gardeners should not knowingly introduce weedy, prohibited, or diseased plants to the garden.
    • Visitors and non-gardening members of our community are welcome to spend time in the garden enjoying public areas in a respectful manner.
    • All activities must be conducted in a safe manner within daylight hours.
    • Garden activities are structured to be accessible to persons of all abilities. Pathways and access routes should be kept clear to ensure there are no physical barriers to participation.
    • Be kind and courteous with fellow gardeners, assuming they have the best intentions.
  • The following behaviors are strictly prohibited in all interactions with volunteers, community members, and CBE staff:
    • Discrimination
    • Obscene or offensive remarks
    • Personal attacks, harassment, insults or threats
    • Profane language
    • Disruptive, aggressive, or unsafe behavior
    • Sexual misconduct or physical violence.
    Violations may result in immediate removal from the program in any/all capacity.

  • Gardeners may keep the above rules for their own records. CBE Leadership Team must have a signature page on record for all gardeners before they can participate in the garden.
  • I fully understand and agree to abide by the policies of The Cleo Bailey Experiment as outlined above. I further agree to represent The Cleo Bailey Experiment in a professional and courteous manner which reflects the organization's key messages and core values. I agree to consult with a member of the CBE Leadership Team should any situation arise during the event which requires clarification, consultation, or appropriate input before making a decision.
