Groveland Gallery and Outdoor Painters of Minnesota proudly present the 11th Annual Plein Air Smackdown

A day of plein air painting, camaraderie, and art appreciation at Groveland Gallery and surrounding neighborhood. Collectors and art lovers are invited to watch painters capture scenes from Loring Park to the Walker Sculpture Garden and hillside views of Minneapolis from the Lowry Hill neighborhood surrounding Groveland Gallery. Finished paintings are displayed and may be offered for sale at an afternoon exhibit and reception at the Gallery.
Groveland Gallery's Featured Artists and members of Outdoor Painters of Minnesota are invited to register to participate. Space is limited, so please sign up now to reserve your spot. Artists may sell off-the-easel for no commission or display their finished, framed paintings in the gallery's afternoon exhibit by signing a consignment agreement with 40% gallery commission. Unsold paintings displayed in the afternoon may be removed by the artist or remain on display for up to three weeks.
Schedule:
8:00–10:00am Artists may arrive to secure free parking on Groveland Terrace and find a place to paint.
10:00am-2:00pm Paint-Out: Artists check in at Groveland Gallery and deploy to paint. Collectors and visitors are invited to search for artists to engage and watch them paint.
2:00-6:00pm Exhibit + Afterparty: Artists bring their finished paintings to Groveland Gallery for casual display outside on easels or framed display in the Gallery. Grilled hot dogs and beverages will be served from the Gallery's iconic front porch.
What to bring:
- Painting surface with matching frame. Pro tip: wire and set your points or clips in your frame ahead of time so you can drop in your wet painting and go.
- Painting rig
- Sun, rain, and insect protection
- Drinking water
- Camp chair for socializing at the afterparty
