WELCOME RIDERS to the 14th Annual Red Rock Rumble 75, 65, 50, 30-Mile and Intro Endurance Rides, the AHA Region 3 Distance Championsip, FEI 1* and 2* and new this year NATRC 10 mile Leisure Distance Event. Truely something for everyone this year!
This area will be familiar to many folks who have enjoyed Red Rock rides in the past. We may be using a few different trails again this year so while it will be familiar, it will also be new. The area was in the way of the Bug Fire this year but amazingly enough many of our trails were not impacted. We will be maximizing the untouched areas but you will see the burn. Through the generosity of several local ranchers, we will have lots of water available throughout the ride. It is the consideration of another local landowner that we were able to get you into some really great areas. This is a wonderful time of year to see the deer, antelope, and wild horse herds. There can be some grass along the trail depending on rainfall. CAMP is bare bones. There is horse water available but as a precaution PLEASE BRING AN INITIAL SUPPLY OF WATER WITH YOU FOR YOUR HORSE. We have had trouble with the spring some years and it takes longer to get camp water established on Friday. There are no campfires allowed. Contained, gas/propane fire rings are permitted but must be attended at all times.
PARKING: Parking is always tight. Please plan on trailer-pooling if possible, and plan on parking very conservatively. There is absolutely no parking or camping of ride entrants allowed on burn areas. The left side of the road is designated for volunteers, vets, and photographers. Please do not park here.
LOCATION / DIRECTIONS: Ride camp is located off Red Rock Road, just a little north of Reno. Take the Red Rock Exit off US Hwy 395 and head east 15 miles. There will be ribbons and signs telling you where to turn right onto a dirt road. Follow the dirt road about a mile to camp. This is a single lane road. Be careful coming and going on this road and watch for other vehicles.
CAMP RULES:
Quiet hours are in effect from 10pm-5am. Generators must be turned off by 9pm. If you feel you have a medical condition that requires a generator to run all night, then please notify management prior to arrival so we can arrange for your parking space so that others are not disturbed by your generator noise. The ride office may have to run generators later in order to take care of any last minute changes so if you are affected by generator noise you may not want to park near the office area.
Dogs must be leashed in common areas. Dogs that cause issues could cause their owner/rider to be disqualified. This includes but is not limited to eating/taking food meant for human consumption, going through garbage, barking incessantly, biting, peeing or pooping on hay, tack or tires of any of managements vehicles. Well behaved and well socialized dogs are always welcome. Clean up after your dog and be a good dog owner and you won't have issues. Chili looks forward to seeing all of her dog friends and enjoying a fun weekend.
Horse behavior - while horses are independent thinkers and can be unpredictable and exuberant, they should also be trained to a level that they are safe to be around and be handled by other humans. If your horse cannot be contained or controlled to a reasonable level, please use this weekend to work on training your horse to a safe level AT HOME and don't expect the volunteers and vets to risk their lives doing the training for you.
Campfires are not permitted in camp. Small portable gas rings may be used but may not be left unattended.
Garbage: You bring it in you haul it out. If you see garbage pick it up and throw it away. We will have garbage bags and recycle bins in main camp for use in that area.
Hay and Manure: You may spread your hay and manure. You do need to fill in any dug holes that your dog, horse or pet rabbit dig while you are enjoying this rustic camp. The wildlife will do a lot of the clean-up but let's not leave the place looking like Red Neck Burning Man.
TRAIL DESCRIPTION: The trails will not be set in stone until the week prior to the ride due to Mother Nature's procrastination in her decisions regarding weather and fire. Trails will be laid out in a loop configuration with all holds being at camp. Light snacks and beverages will be available at camp during the ride.
The trail is almost entirely sandy jeep roads and sandy single track. There are hardly any rocks. You MAY pass through a meadow or two that can be wet depending on the weather, and there is usually a bit of grass along the trail. There are no significant water crossings but if we have a wet fall there may be some small creeks.
The loops will all be available in GPS format and will be sent with your rider packet information the week prior to the ride, usually on Wednesday. We will also send Rides with GPS files.
PRE-RIDE VET CHECK / RIDE MEETING: Our Head Vet will be Dr. Susan McCartney with Dr. Betsy Lau as the treatment vet. They will be joined by our amazing FEI vets. So we will have a full cadre of vets. Vetting will begin upon the arrival of the veterinarians, approximately 4 pm Friday. There will be a short ride meeting to go over the trails and any updates. You will be sent your ride packet via email the week of the ride. Feel free to print out anything you feel you will need. We will not be printing off a bunch of paper that will just get thrown away and never looked at again. Any time changes will be posted and/or announced.
STARTING TIMES: 65 and 75 mile rides start at 6 am, 50-mile ride starts at 7 am, and 30-mile ride begins at 8 am, the Intro Riders may start anytime after 9 am. NATRC 10 Mile Leisure Division Ride will start at 9 am. These times are subject to change based on weather conditions, but we plan to make the most of what daylight we have available.
MEALS: We are currently arranging for a food truck and will post updates as we have them. Ride Management will provide all riders with one meal on Saturday. Meals will be ready starting around noon and be available until 7pm or the food runs out.
AWARDS: Completion awards will be given to all successful finishers in all rides. There will also be awards for the Overall Winner, 1st in each weight division, 1st Junior, Best Condition and Top Ten for the 75, 65, 50-mile rides. A Best Condition Award will be given on the 30-mile ride. First Place Full and Half Arabian and best condition as well as top ten for the AHA Distance Championship will be awarded to those entered and eligible. There will be Overall High Point, high point in each NATRC division and top 6 in each division for those entered in the NATRC rides. Please pick up your awards if you are not staying for the awards presentation, or have someone pick them up for you, otherwise they will be forfeited.
SERIES RIDES: The Red Rock Rumble Ride is the final event in our NASTR Trifecta, Hat Trick and Did You Die? Ride Series. Our series rides feature the beautiful Northern Nevada valleys, deserts, foothills, and mountains. We invite you to test yourself and your horse, and join us in the fun and challenge, as well as the special awards. Nomination fees are $35 if paid at this ride and must be paid with your entry prior to the start of the ride. Riders must have completed their ride at Nevada Derby and NASTR to be eligible for awards.
