Women in Horror Movement (WiHM) is an international, grassroots initiative, which encourages supporters to learn about and showcase the underrepresented work of women in the horror industries. The Los Angeles Chapter focuses on supporting gender equality and combatting gatekeeping in the film industry and by resource-sharing for new and up-and-coming filmmakers, and giving female, trans and non-binary artists a platform with independent film screenings, fundraising promotions, artist profiles and more!
Please read the SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Our Microgrant Fundraiser Application is open to short film teams headed by a female or nonbinary director or writer.
From the application, we will choose 3-5 short films to invite to participate in a small digital fundraiser. Upon selection, applicants will be responsible for promoting their fundraiser with provided materials or creating their own. Applicants will have 1-2 weeks to raise funds and will recieve the funds as a grant 10-12 weeks after completion. Grants are not guaranteed upon selection.
Films will gain exposure through promotion of the event as well as have the opportunity to take direct donations alongside the earned microgrant. Grants are expected to be between $50-$300. These are MICROGRANTS, though we hope with success we can build towards additional funding opportunities.
Films must be:
1. Directed or written by a female or non-binary identifying filmmaker
2. Planned to shoot in 2026, with a viable budget going forward, with or without access to microgrants.
3. SHORT FILMS (1 to 25 pages/minutes in length)
4. Ideally subject matter and themes relevant to women in horror. Projects with no relevance will not be considered.
5. Films may be in any stage of production, microgrants may be considered for finishing funds. Films will also be preferably independent microbudget projects.
PLEASE NOTE: Please complete all sections of the application to be considered.
1-3 SUPPLEMENTARY MATERIALS MUST BE INCLUDED.
These may be: poster art, pitch deck, graphics, mood board, etc (things we can use to promote your project) script, budget, etc. (pre-production documents that prove serious intent to shoot.)
By submitting, you authorize WiHMLA to distribute and share the film poster, teaser, logline, synopsis and cast and crew on social media.
Selection does not guarantee a microgrant. WiHMLA reserves the right to rescind the grant if we find that you or your film has been misrepresented or does not serve our values. Full participation is required to boost end results. By submitting, you agree to share and promote the fundraiser.
