EU: Invest in What Matters to People!

  • The Petition 

    The 7-year budget must strengthen foundations of prosperity, peace, equality and democracy. Yet, the proposed budget risks reallocating resources away from these areas. 

    In line with EU Treaty obligations, to ensure equality between women and men in all EU activities, we call on the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union and the European Commission to ensure that the EU budget truly works for people: 

    1. Prioritise and earmark funding for gender equality, women’s rights, care services, social priorities and the environment across the EU budget. 

    2. Include clear gender equality objectives in all EU funding programmes, ensuring that commitments translate into resources, real action and measurable progress. 

    3. Embed gender equality objectives and funding for these in national and regional partnership plans, based on meaningful participation of civil society and independent gender equality bodies during planning processes.
       
    4. Set ambitious spending targets for gender equality in internal and external policies. 

    5. Integrate meaningful gender mainstreaming throughout the EU budget cycle—from programme design to implementation, monitoring and evaluation. 

    6. Fully respect EU Treaty obligations to promote equality between women and men in all EU activities.
