Faculty Fellowship Application 2026
  • Faculty Fellowship Application

    2026-2028 TGQF Fellows
  • TGQF Faculty Fellowships are the humanities-grounded creative center of discussion-based and student-centered pedagogical development in the liberal arts, providing a leadership incubator for faculty who will transform general education at the community college through the values of discussion-based learning. We are grateful to the Mellon Foundation for their generous support of this fellowship. Before completing this application, please carefully read through the Fellowship details here: https://www.tgqf.org/the-fellowship-experience/

The 2026 – 2028 fellowship is open to all community college faculty members who teach in the humanities or humanities-based social sciences, both full-time and adjunct, with at least four semesters of teaching experience in credit-bearing courses that meet general education or core curriculum requirements. Faculty may apply as individuals, but are strongly encouraged to apply as college-based teams of 3-4 faculty, and teams may include some representation from other disciplines if the team intends to work on humanities-based learning across the disciplines.

Only one application should be submitted form each team. Please select a lead applicant, who will fill out and submit this form, and who will be our main point of contact for the purposes of the Fellowship.

The application deadline for the 2026-2028 Fellowship is September, 2 at 11:59pm Central Time. Applications will be reviewed by a committee comprised of the Fellowship Directors and four community colleges instructional leaders from multiple campuses. Notifications will be sent by September 16, 2026.

Thanks for you time in completing this application!

  • Which best describes your position at your institution? We look forward to working with both full-time and part-time faculty members who teach regularly.*
  • About how many years have you been teaching community college students?*
  • Does each applicant have at least four semesters of teaching experience in credit-bearing courses that meet general education or core curriculum requirements?*
  • Please upload a letter of interest from each member of this campus team. Letters should discuss each applicant’s interest in this Fellowship opportunity. Why do you want to help lead this national effort to make general education liberal education at community colleges, and why is this an important goal? What do you think are the major challenges leaders here will need to navigate to be successful? What skills and experiences do you bring to the table that will help you lead this work, and which may be helpful in overcoming the challenges you identified? What are some of your initial thoughts on which course you plan to redesign and why. Each redesign will center the course on discussion-based study of transformative texts, works or ideas, accounting for about 1/3rd of the curriculum. What are your initial ideas about how you plan to do that for the course you selected? (600 words max)

Additionally, please upload a letter of support from an instructional dean or another senior academic officer at your institution, who will be able to share some ways they may support you and your team in this work. If you would like TGQF to consider your campus as the location of the June 2-5, 2027 TGQF Fellows Convening, please ask this person to explain why your campus may be a good fit for this meeting. If you would like TGQF's assistance in considering how best to approach your academic leadership in asking for support of your application, please reach out to Ted (ted@tgqf.org). We'll help!

Please also feel free, but not required, to include any additional letters of support from folks at your institution that you think may strengthen your application
