• CONSENT FOR INDIRECT (Crestal) SINUS LIFT WITH IMPLANT PLACEMENT

  • Your doctor has explained that the bone in the back of your upper jaw is not tall enough to place a dental implant safely. To create enough bone, an indirect (crestal) sinus lift will be performed.

This procedure is accessed through the jaw bone where the implant will be inserted. Local anesthesia will be used to numb the area, and sedation may be offered if needed. During the procedure:

    • A small opening is made in the bone.

    • The sinus membrane is gently lifted using special instruments.

    • Bone graft material is placed under the lifted membrane to increase bone height.

    • The dental implant will then be placed in the same visit.

After the procedure, you will receive detailed instructions on how to care for the area. For example, it is important not to blow your nose for two weeks to allow proper healing.

  • While this is generally a safe procedure, some risks and complications may occur, including:

    • Sinus membrane tear or perforation, which may result in aborting the procedure

    • Infection including sinusitis, swelling, pain, or bruising

    • Bleeding

    • Numbness or changes in sensation (usually temporary, rarely permanent)

The success of the procedure can be affected by factors such as smoking, alcohol use, medications, medical conditions, oral hygiene, and habits like teeth grinding or clenching.

No procedure can guarantee a perfect result, but every effort will be made to ensure the best outcome. If bone healing is not sufficient, additional treatment may be required.
