  • 2026 City of Carbondale Summer Internship Program

    The City of Carbondale is excited to announce the 2026 Summer Internship Program is now accepting applications from Carbondale Community High School students. This seven-week program, running from June 8, 2026 to July 24, 2026, offers a unique opportunity for students to develop valuable, transferable skills while contributing to various city department projects. Interns will engage in hands-on tasks, participate in weekly lunch-and-learn sessions with local community leaders on topics such as civic engagement and financial planning, and earn $16.00 per hour for 10 to 20 hours of work each week.     Personal Essay & References

    We are asking candidates to submit a short essay EITHER written onto the application form OR uploaded as a separate document (only one form of submission is required). This personal essay will let the selection committee know who you are, why you are applying, and describe the personal skills and experiences you have that make you a great candidate. We are also asking candidates to list two (2) personal references. References may include one (1) relative. We do encourage candidates to ask teachers, staff, school administrators and/or past employers to be a reference. The essay prompt can be accessed through the website.     Preferred Forms of Work, Availability, and Accommodations

    Selected interns will have the option to either work up to 10 hours per week or 20 hours per week. The program coordinators will attempt to pair you with a preferred City department and will take into consideration any accommodations required by interns throughout the program. BELOW ARE DEPARTMENT OPTIONS. Descriptions of each department are available by request and can be found on the informative handout.
