  • The Nassau, Bahamas, Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated proudly presents the 2026 Dame Dr. Doris Johnson and Bessie Mae Bowe Rolle Scholarship Program, which recognizes graduating female students who have demonstrated significant academic improvement and personal resilience during their high school journey. The program celebrates perseverance, determination, and the transformative power of education while supporting young Bahamian women as they pursue post-secondary opportunities. Judges will consider academic progress between Grades 10 through 12, evidence of resilience, and the applicant's character and future aspirations. The following applications are now available:

    Dame Dr. Doris Johnson (Public Sr. High School) - $1,000

    Bessie Mae Bowe Rolle (Private Sr. High School) - $1,000

    Application deadline: May 31, 2026

  • Eligibility Requirements

    Applicants must
  • ● Be female

    ● Be a Bahamian citizen or legal resident
    ● Be graduating Grade 12 in 2026

    ● Attend either:
        ○ a Bahamian government school (Dame Doris Johnson category), or
        ○ a Bahamian private school (Bessie Mae Bowe Rolle category)

    ● Demonstrate academic improvement from grades 10 through 12

    ● Plan to pursue post-secondary education

  • Application Requirements

    Each application must include:
  • ● Letter of Recommendation from a Principal, Guidance Counselor or Educator

    ● Official Transcript to be emailed to dstnbac@gmail.com

    ● Completed Application Form, inclusive of Student Reflection responses

    Incomplete applications will not be considered. 

     

  • Letter of Recommendation

  • Each applicant must submit one letter of recommendation written by a principal, guidance counselor, or educator who is familiar with the student’s academic progress. 

    The letter must be written on official school letterhead and signed by the recommender.

    The letter should address the following:

    ●The student's academic improvement from grades 10 through 12
    ●The student's work ethic, initiative, and commitment to improving academically
    ●The student's character and personal growth during high school
    ●Why the student is a strong candidate for this scholarship

    Letters should ideally be approximately one page in length and include specific examples where possible. The letter should also indicate how long the recommender has known the student and in what capacity. 

  • Official Academic Transcript Requirement

  • For schools structured as Grades 7–12, only academic performance from Grades 10 through 12 will be considered in the scholarship evaluation process to ensure consistency across all school systems.

  • The transcripts must include:

    • Final subject grades for Grade 10 and Grade 11
    • Most recent Grade 12 subject grades available at the time of application (e.g., most recent term or mid-year report)
    • Overall GPA or average, if available
    • The school's grading scale (percentage or letter grade system)

    The transcript must be signed or verified by a school registrar, principal, or guidance counselor.
