• OPEN CALL 2026

    Application deadline: 10 April 2026
    Results: 12 April 2026
    Exhibition opening: 7 May 2026

    Open-air exhibition: PLAFOND.
    Presentation

In everyday life, much of what surrounds us goes unnoticed. We move through streets, buildings, and familiar faces without really seeing them. Even the ceiling above us, though constantly present, is rarely seen.

If your first reaction is to look up and think, “There is no ceiling here, we are outside,” then you have already understood the idea behind this open-air exhibition.

Within our homes, the ceiling is no less absent from conscious attention. It is so present and familiar that it becomes invisible.

The exhibition PLAFOND interrogates this form of invisibility created by familiarity. What is always visible can become unseen.

Across Sarreguemines, the exhibition presents artworks in public space that draw attention to what is usually overlooked. It asks simple questions: what do we lose when we stop noticing something? What remains when it disappears from attention?

The works deal with presence and absence in different ways. They invite the public to reconsider what it means to notice, or not notice.

Rather than treating architecture as background, PLAFOND focuses on perception itself and how it can fail or shift.

The exhibition is ultimately less about the ceiling than about the act of seeing, and about everything that disappears from view precisely because it is always there with us.

  • About the exhibition:

The Collective for a European Civic Service is launching an OPEN CALL for the 2026 edition of the open-air art exhibition of the LUST IN SARREGUEMINES festival.

Each year, a selection of 25 artists is invited to highlight their diversity. The exhibition takes place in public space and allows the artworks to be presented to a wide audience across the city of Sarreguemines and the Grand Est region.

The LUST IN SARREGUEMINES festival is an annual event that combines art and music, transforming the city into an open cultural space, accessible to both local residents and visitors from across the region.

PLAFOND is an open-air art exhibition taking place on 7 May 2026 in Sarreguemines.

The project is based on a simple idea: in our daily lives, many things become invisible not because they disappear, but because they are always present.

Starting from this observation, the exhibition invites artists to explore a question: how do we perceive what we no longer look at?

The exhibition aims to encourage visitors to take a new look at their everyday surroundings.
