Amp Up Arts and The King's Canvas are seeking professional mural artists interested in designing and installing multiple interior murals at Highlands Gardens Elementary School in Montgomery, Alabama.
Highland Gardens Elementary is centered on the theme of community and schools and is seeking mural designs that reflect the people, professions, and shared values that shape student life. Murals may include representations of community pride, collaboration, cultural identity, and community-based careers that students can envision for themselves, such as educators, healthcare workers, artists, engineers, entrepreneurs, public servants, and other professions that contribute to a thriving community.
This opportunity includes multiple interior murals completed by multiple artists, with all installations taking place in June. Artists must be available during the months of June and/or July and flexible in coordinating with the school’s building access schedule.
One mural will include a structured student engagement component, in which the selected artist will collaborate with students in the design and/or painting process. For this mural, the artist must be available Monday-Thursday, during the month of June, between 8-12pm. All other murals will be completed independently by selected artists in coordination with school leadership.
Final artist selection will be made by Highlands Gardens Elementary School leadership.
Selected artists will be expected to:
- Collaborate with school administration on final design approval
- Submit a concept sketch prior to installation
- Complete the mural within the designated timeline
- Work within school access hours and guidelines
We are especially interested in artists who demonstrate strong community-centered design practices and experience working in educational spaces.
