  • Institutional Requirements

Sponsoring Institution: Neurohospitalist fellowships must be overseen by a Sponsoring Institution that maintains institutional accreditation with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or the Canadian Excellence in Residency Accreditation (CanERA). Programs seeking accreditation must provide a letter, signed by the Designated Institutional Official or representative, stating the Sponsoring Institution’s ACGME or CanERA accreditation is current, and that the Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC) or Postgraduate Education Committee has knowledge of the Neurohospitalist fellowship and has approved its application for accreditation as relevant to the Sponsoring Institution. If the Neurohospitalist fellowship program intends to offer positions to foreign national physicians working in the United States on J-1 visas sponsored by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), the letter must also include a statement verifying that the Sponsoring Institution has recognition to conduct Non-Standard Training programs by the ACGME, and that the neurohospitalist fellowship is in compliance with local requirements for NST programs.

This letter does not need to be resubmitted unless the fellowship program is newly planning to offer positions to physicians working on a J-1 visa (there will be an opportunity to do this later in this submission form).

  • Since the initial accreditation or last biennial program evaluation report, do you wish to increase the number of fellows you train annually?
  • Provide a sample schedule that illustrates how the fellowship plans to accommodate multiple learners. A sample schedule is provided here. Note, in this example both learners are never on the same rotation at the same time, but that does not preclude this option if a rotation can provide a robust learning experience for two fellows simultaneously.

  • Since the initial accreditation or last biennial program evaluation report, has the program’s rotation schedule changed?
  • Provide an updated list of clinical educational experiences (i.e., rotations). List rotations, the site at which each occurs, and the number of months the fellow spends in each experience. Core clinical rotations should be specified as such. At least six months must be spent in core clinical rotations. A sample schedule is provided here:

*Learning goals and objectives should be clearly numbered in the box or document submitted with initial accreditation or biennial review. These numbers can then be used to identify goals and objectives in the list of clinical educational experiences.
