Idaho Trans-Affirming Bathroom Map

Only answer what feels safe, skip any questions that feel uncomfortable.
  • Trans Affirm is building a community-informed list of safer bathrooms for trans people across Idaho because access to something as basic as a restroom is no longer guaranteed to be safe.

Recent legislation signed into law in Idaho criminalizes trans people for using bathrooms that align with their gender identity in both government buildings and many public-facing businesses. In some cases, simply entering a restroom can result in criminal charges, including up to a year in jail for a first offense and harsher penalties for repeat charges. This law does not just create legal risk, it increases the likelihood of harassment, confrontation, and public scrutiny of trans bodies in everyday spaces.

Because of this, finding a bathroom is no longer just about convenience. It is about safety, dignity, and avoiding harm.

This form exists to help build a list of bathrooms that trans people have personally experienced as safer, affirming, or lower risk.

Accurate, good-faith reporting is critical. These submissions may directly impact where someone chooses to go when they are navigating real safety concerns.

For allies: your participation matters, but with care. A space that feels safe to a cis person is not automatically safe for a trans person. Factors like staff behavior, other patrons, location, visibility, and how gender is policed in that space can all change the level of risk. If you are submitting, please be thoughtful, specific, and honest about what you actually observed rather than assuming safety.

For trans community members: your lived experience is the most important part of this project. Your input helps others make informed decisions and avoid potentially harmful situations.

This is a collective effort to look out for one another in a time where safety cannot be assumed, and we thank you for that care! Submissions will be up on the TransAffirm.org website with our resource list. If you'd like to help assist with this project and make a map, please contact us at info@transaffirm.org
