  • The Seaton Foundation is inviting applications from community organisations working to improve food security in our region. We know that for many people and families, reliable access to nutritious food is not a given, and the groups doing something about it are often under-resourced.

This grant round is focused on practical, direct-impact work: making sure people and families have access to healthy nutritious food and meals, reducing barriers to food access, and building the capacity of the organisations making it happen.

Grants of between $5,000 and $25,000 are available.

We have created a grant pack to help you fill out this application. Please download the grant pack before completing this application form.

  • What we will fund

We are looking for projects with a clear, direct benefit to local people and families. The examples below are a guide only. If you don’t see your project listed here and feel it aligns with the goals of this grant round, we encourage you to apply.
  • Activity Examples of what this includes
Community Meals Regular community breakfast, lunch, or dinner programs
Food Pantries Setting up or expanding free or low-cost food pantries, including equipment, storage, and operational costs
Community Gardens Establishing or expanding community growing spaces to increase equitable access to fresh food, including tools, seeds, infrastructure, and coordination
Volunteer support & capacity Training, equipment, or resources that help volunteers supporting food security efforts do their work more effectively and sustainably
Food rescue & redistribution Local food rescue initiatives that reduce waste and redirect surplus food to people who need it
  • Who can apply

  • Applications are open to not-for-profit organisations with DGR-1 status based in the Northern Rivers region (NSW) with services benefiting local people.

  • What makes a strong application

  • We will assess applications against the following questions:

    • Is there a clear description of the problem being addressed, and who it affects in your community?
    • Is there a specific, practical plan for how the funds will be used?
    • Does the budget show that the grant will make a meaningful difference?
    • Does the organisation have the people and capacity to carry out the project?
    • Is there some indication of how you will know the project has worked — even something simple?
  • A note on reporting

  • We keep our reporting requirements proportionate to the grant. All successful grantees will be asked to provide a brief progress update at the six-month mark, and a short final report within one month of completing their project. We are interested in what happened, what you learned, and whether anything changed for the people you serve.

  • Tips for applicants

  • Keep it straightforward You don’t need to use specialist language or write like a grant-writer to be successful. Tell us what you’re doing, who it helps, and what the grant funding will pay for.
Be specific about the budget A budget broken down into line items e.g. $400 for seeds and soil, $1,200 for a freezer, $600 for a coordinator’s time, is far more helpful than a round number with no explanation.
Show the community connection The strongest applications come from organisations where the people running the project know the people who need it.
  • How to apply

  • Applications can be submitted by filling out this form from the opening date on 7 April 2026.

Applications close at 5pm on 1 May 2026.

Successful applicants will be notified by 29 May 2026.
