Homes for Horses Coalition Wild Horse Capacity Grant

  • Homes for Horses Coalition, an initiative of American Wild Horse Conservation and the Animal Welfare Institute, is dedicated to promoting equine welfare and providing opportunities for equine rescues to succeed.

Equine rescues and sanctuaries play a critical role in protecting wild horses and burros in need by providing quality training, maintaining high standards of care, and securing forever homes.

American Wild Horse Conservation (AWHC) is providing this grant with the goal of ensuring that equine rescues and sanctuaries have the resources they need to support at-risk wild horses and burros that have been removed from the range.

    Purpose

This grant is intended to help equine rescues and sanctuaries expand their operational capacity to take in and care for wild horses and burros while maintaining high welfare standards.

    Eligible project examples include:

-Facility improvements (fencing, shelter, quarantine areas, water infrastructure)
-Training resources for gentling and placement preparation
-Herd health interventions (veterinary care, dental, farrier, vaccination programs)
-Capacity-building equipment directly tied to wild horse or burro care

Funds may not be used for the purchase or adoption of equines.

    Eligibility

This grant funding is reserved for 501(c)(3) equine rescues or sanctuaries that are members of the Homes for Horses Coalition. Organizations must have obtained their tax-exempt status more than two years prior to the date of the grant application submission.

    Funding

Grant sizes will range from $2,000 to $6,000, and funding will be available only during the grant period. Grantees will be expected to complete a grant agreement provided by AWHC and a report on how the funds were spent at the conclusion of the grant period.

Homes for Horses Coalition and AWHC retain sole discretion in awarding funds.
