Mindeullae (Dandelion) Project brings together progressive, left, and radical Korean pungmul players to learn, play, build community, and support local movements through our drumming. Read more about Mindeullae and this class here: https://bit.ly/aboutmindeullae.
We are excited to launch a pilot series of 5 weekly workshops. Each class will be 2 hours long and is focused on learning the foundations of janggu. The set dates are: April 29, May 6, May 13, May 20, and May 27, from 6:30 - 8:30pm in Oakland (arrive by 6:20pm). Because this series is limited to only 5 classes, we are adhering to a firm attendance policy. Please review these expectations carefully before confirming registration.
1) Consistent attendance is expected, because we will be building off of each class and there will be limited time for review. 2) As part of commitments to the space and to each other, we are also expecting people to arrive at least 10 minutes prior to start time, so that we can set up the space together and are ready to begin on time! 3) In the case of an emergency (you are feeling sick, etc.), we ask that participants notify facilitators of absence at least 12 hours prior in cases where possible.

Minors are welcome to join (teens and up) if they are accompanied by a parent/guardian who also registers and participates fully. Due to legal considerations and limited capacity, we are not able to accommodate unaccompanied minors. This is our first time offering this class series, so we hope to build toward a more intergenerational space as we go!

I have reviewed and agree to uphold all community agreements stated in the document. I understand that violating the community agreements may result in me being asked to leave the space.
As a practice of disability justice, we continue to prioritize maintaining strong COVID protocols. Do you agree to the following?
*
If you are feeling unwell or are having cold symptoms, please stay home for the health of the instructors, organizers, and other drummers. This is an act of solidarity.
A negative COVID rapid test day-of will be required in order to enter the space. We will use class funds to help provide tests for those who need them. We encourage folks to take advantage of free test resources as available (libraries, health insurance reimbursement, etc.).
Masking Baseline: Masks are required. As a practice of disability justice, we require masks indoors. We can help provide masks, and are open to discussing further to meet everyone's needs.Teachers may unmask to facilitate teaching. We will take frequent breaks during more strenuous activity (e.g. running and drumming), and encourage folks to take breaks as they need (see "Everyone has agency to take care of their needs" above).
This space is limited to members of the Korean diaspora. Do you identify as being of Korean descent?

Our classes will focus on the foundations of playing the janggu (hourglass shaped drum). We have a limited inventory of community janggus we can loan. If you can secure your own janggu by borrowing from a friend or community member on your own, we highly encourage this so that we can maximize the number of drums and participants.

I need to borrow a community janggu, and agree to follow all care instructions provided while it is in my possession.
I will secure my own janggu by bringing my own or borrowing a friend's.
Do you feel comfortable having photos/videos of you taken during workshops? (this will be used for documentation purposes and future grant applications)

Drumming is a very physical activity. Classes will involve a combination of sitting on the ground to play, and wearing the janggu while standing, walking, and skipping. Please share any access needs with us that we can support with (e.g. can't sit for long periods of time, scent sensitivity, immunocompromised, etc.)

Mindeullae's ability to offer this class series depends on community support. We are offering the series at $25 per class ($125 total), which will help cover basic compensation for teachers, organizers, and program supplies. To make the series more financially accessible, we are also making a reduced price of $15 per class available for anyone who needs it. Please use your honest judgment to choose your pricing tier. Payments can be made in installments, if necessary. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.

I will pay the regular price: $25 per class ($125 total)
I will pay the reduced price: $15 per class ($75 total)
I will need support to work out my contribution towards this class.
Is there anything else that you feel is important to share? If you will be accompanied by a parent/guardian/teenager, please put their name here (both the teen and their adult are required to fill out the registration form and be full participants of the program).
