Spring 2026 Call for Executive Board Applications

  • MMEA is excited to begin the process for the election of new board members.


    The call for nominations for the following positions are extended to May 20th, 2026:

    • Past-District Chairperson
    • DEIA Chairperson
    • General Music/Music Technology Coalition Chair
    • Chorus/Vocal Coalition Chair
    • String/Orchestra Coalition Chair
    • Jazz/Contemporary Ensembles Coalition Chair

    Each of these voting positions serves a two-year term on the Executive Board.

    The deadline to apply below is May 20th. All applications will be reviewed and selected by the Nominating Committee. Applicants will be notified of their status after the Committee makes their selections. 

    Past-District Chairperson: 

    • Attend monthly MMEA board meetings on Monday evenings from 4:30 PM-6:00 PM once a month during the school year and an all-day retreat each summer. 
    • Offer institutional knowledge during decision-making processes

    DEIA Chair: 

    • Attend monthly MMEA board meetings on Monday evenings from 4:30 PM-6:00 PM once a month during the school year and an all-day retreat each summer. 
    • Lead Meetings for DEIA Committee (1 hour monthly + prep)
      Set agendas
      • Strategic planning
      • Attend MMEA Executive Board Meetings (1.5 hours monthly)
    • Advocate for DEIA initiatives
      • Ensure that DEIA issues are discussed in decision making
      • Relay information to the Executive Board from the Subcommittees
      • Work with President to implement DEIA Training for Executive Board on yearly basis
    • Support Subcommittee Work (1-3 hours monthly)
      • Attend subcommittee meetings as needed to support and monitor the implementation of initiatives.
      • Collaborate with the Executive Board and Executive Directors to identify solutions and coordinate financial and logistical supports for new initiatives.
    • Prepare Communications (as needed)
      • Draft and review emails to the membership around DEIA initiatives
      • Send to President, Director of Communications and Database Manager 
    • Consult (or coordinate consultation from committee) with other MMEA committees or chairs (as needed)

    All Coalition Chair Responsibilities

    • Attend monthly MMEA board meetings on Monday evenings from 4:30 PM-6:00 PM once a month during the school year and an all-day retreat each summer. 
    • Coalition members serve as Conference Committee Members and must attend the conference both Thursday and Friday.  Hotel is provided Thursday evening and parking is reimbursable for Thursday and Friday.
    • Coalition chairs will create a subcommittee of coalition members to select and choose sessions that have been proposed for the All State Conference.
    • Purpose of coalitions are to provide all association members with direct voice and a mechanism to bring concerns, suggestions, and ideas to the Board of Directors.
    • Quarterly meetings (including at the All State Conference) open to any association member who believes they are a part of that coalition.
    • Association members can be a part of multiple coalitions.
    • Provide a forum to connect with other organizations, schools, and districts for networking and opening dialogue
    • Coalition chair will collaborate and liaise with other organizations and coordinate our festivals with other organization’s festivals, etc., such as:
      • ACDA - Chorus
      • ASTA - Strings
      • BAKE/KODALY - General Music
      • FAME - General Music
      • MAJE - Jazz/Contemporary
      • MICCA - Strings/Band/Choral
      • ORFF - General Music

    General Music/Music Technology Coalition Chair who will represent the interests of general music classroom education, special education, beginning and continuing vocal and instrumental instruction, integration of technology, and other music activities for students through grade five.

    Chorus/Vocal Coalition Chair who will represent the interests of choral and vocal music programs.

    String/Orchestra Coalition Chair who will represent the interests of strings and orchestral music programs.

    Jazz/Contemporary Ensembles Coalition Chair who will represent the interests of jazz and contemporary ensembles.

     

    Serve on the Nominating Committee!

    We are also looking for people to serve on the nominating committee led by past president Anthony Beatrice. Responsibilities include reviewing candidate applications via zoom meeting on Thursday, April 30th at 7:00 PM to create the final slate of candidates for presentation to the Executive Board for approval.
