    POSITION OVERVIEW

    LA Commons is seeking an undergraduate student to participate in the Getty Marrow Undergraduate Internship for Summer 2026. Application period closes April 17th, 2026.

    The LA Commons Getty Marrow Community Engagement Intern will work closely with the Community Arts Director and Associate Director in coordinating local community arts programs in South Los Angeles and throughout Los Angeles. The intern will play an integral role in maintaining communications with artists, youth and partner organizations as well as assisting coordination for story gatherings and events. Duties will include supporting outreach efforts with local partners to engage community members and youth, maintaining contact lists, acquiring and organizing workshop supplies, and supporting program evaluation.

    The intern will be able to support research and coordination of additional engagement programming within LA Commons’ Creative Career Pathway work and general LA Commons partnership programming, such as pop-up art workshops at community events, artist engagement activities, and youth-focused programming. The intern will also have the opportunity to work alongside artists in developing and implementing community engagement activities.

    SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND REQUIREMENTS:

    • The intern should demonstrate strong organizational skills as well as experience in project coordination and community engagement.
    • The intern should demonstrate interest in engaging with and involving youth and community members in artistic expression and cultural knowledge.
    • In addition to creative placekeeping and socially-engaged art, an interest in workforce development for youth in LA County is helpful but not required.

    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

    Students must:

    • Be of a group underrepresented in museums and visual arts organizations, which can include groups defined by – among other things – socioeconomic status, cultural background, physical or other disability, geographical origin, and/or any life experiences that add diverse and underrepresented perspectives.
    • Be currently enrolled in a full-time undergraduate program (bachelor's degree or associate's degree). Students must have completed at least one semester or two quarters of college by June 2024. Students who graduated after April 1, 2024 are also eligible. (Students enrolled in a second BA or BS program are not eligible.)
    • Reside or attend college in Los Angeles County; and
      • Be a United States citizen or permanent resident (non-citizen authorized to live and work in the United States on a permanent basis; also known as a "green card" holder). Students with DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival) status valid through the internship period are also eligible.
