SYNOPSIS
Differences of opinion in Islam are often misunderstood—sometimes leading to confusion, rigidity, or even division. Yet within our tradition, these differences are not flaws, but a reflection of depth, mercy, and intellectual richness. This course seeks to reframe how we understand Islamic law (fiqh), the schools of thought (mazhab), and the ethics that govern scholarly disagreement.
Participants will be introduced to the four major mazhabs, gaining clarity on their origins, contributions, and continued relevance today. Beyond names and histories, the course will explore how scholars derived rulings through distinct methodologies, offering insight into why differences exist in the first place. Just as importantly, learners will be guided on how to approach the study of fiqh in a structured and meaningful way—moving beyond confusion toward confidence.
At the heart of this course is the cultivation of adab (proper conduct). Through exploring the ethics of disagreement, participants will learn how to navigate differing opinions with humility, respect, and intellectual integrity- preserving unity without compromising sincerity in seeking truth.
By the end of the course, participants will not only better understand diversity in fiqh, but also embody a more balanced, principled, and compassionate approach in dealing with differences — grounded in knowledge, and elevated by character.
