If you wanted to influence the result - how could you use AI to help you?
In this interactive workshop, we look at how AI could be used to shape public opinion - not through hacking or fraud, but by creating content that spreads and subtly changes how people think.
You'll see how bad actors can generate realistic images, videos, and social posts - and how they could be used to confuse or misinform people. More importantly, you'll learn why they're created in the first place.
This isn't about trying to spot what's real vs fake - because that's getting harder every day.
Instead, you'll learn how to recognise manipulation, and make more confident decisions about what you see and share online during the upcoming election, and beyond.
We'll look at:
- how AI assisted misinformation could influence voters, based on research by the Alan Turing Institute
- the emotional triggers that make content spread and stick in your head
- why even seeing something you know is fake can still affect how you think
how AI can amplify these effects at scale
You'll take part in interactive activities where we:
- analyse AI-generated posts from recent elections to understand what they're trying to make us think of feel
- Spot the emotional hooks behind viral posts
- Build a bot that can hijack news stories and influence public opinion
No technical knowledge is needed to take part. By learning how to spot AI generated content, you can help stop the spread of harmful online misinformation.
The course is led by Daniel Devine and Craig Steele from Digital Skills Education - a technology education company. We teach people the knowledge and skills to get the most out of technology – at home, in the workplace, or at school.
