    Synopsis:

Content Advisory: This show is about the events of September 11, 2001 and contains mentions of terrorism, discrimination, religious themes, mild language, depiction of alcohol use, and mature subject matter including medical trauma.

Come From Away is the true story about the residents of the small town of Gander in Newfoundland, Canada and the passengers of the 38 planes who landed there on September 11, 2001. It is the story of how a community came together to help strangers with open arms providing food, shelter, and comfort to over 7000 passengers during the darkest of times.

The musical was written by Irene Selkoff and David Hein and is based on hours of interviews with the real people of Gander and the visitors.

The musical explores themes of culture shock, friendship, trauma and prejudice but also celebrates the connection, humour and joy that emerges from crisis. It reminds us of the power of kindness and community in times of adversity.

Although we are mainly looking at accent for this video, please also include characterization and storytelling into your video submission. Upload your video to YouTube or Vimeo and then put the link into the spot on the form when requested.

    Monologue:

“On the northeast tip of North America, on an island called Newfoundland, there’s an airport – it used to be one of the biggest airports in the world. And next to it, is a town called Gander. There’s a two-person police department, an elementary school, an SPCA, a local tv station and a hockey rink. It’s a small place –on a giant rock in the ocean. Everybody knows everybody else. And everybody in this room has a story about how they started that day.”

    2) In-Person Auditions: August 4th and 5th from 7-10 PM

Vocal Auditions: Please choose a vocal piece (16-32 bars) that showcases your vocal range and your storytelling ability. We are not evaluating accents in the vocal audition. • Rehearsal Conflict Information

  • One of our artistic team's goals is to be efficent with everyone's time throughout the rehearsal process. To accomplish this goal, we need to know everyone's rehearsal conflicts before casting.

Please list all rehearsal conflicts on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays evenings and Saturday mornings and afternoons from August 10th- October 26

Note: Although we understand that there is auditioning wisdom that says not to report all of your rehearsal conflicts on your audition form in case it factors into casting, we urge you to report ALL of your conflicts. Added conflicts distrup the rehearsal process and frustrate the artistic team, the production team, and the cast.
