    Fermanagh and Omagh District Council Is Delighted To Be Working In Partnership With Swim Ulster and Loughmacrory Paddle Club To Deliver Our Open Water Safety & Outdoor Activity Day For Young People Aged 9-12 Years.

    A fun outdoor day giving children the chance to try new activities while learning how to stay safe in and around water. Activities include a nature trail walk and talk, watersports and open water swimming,

  • Programme Details:

    Our Outdoor Water Safety Day gives children the chance to get outside, explore the natural environment, and try a range of fun new activities while learning how to stay safe in and around water. The day will include a guided nature trail walk and talk, watersport sessions, and open water swimming, all supported by qualified staff. Helping them to build awareness, confidence, and respect for outdoor water environments through safe, hands‑on experiences.

    When: Tuesday 7th July 2026


    What to expect:
    We will be running three activities on the day starting with a nature walk and talk around Loughmacrory lead by our Bio-Diversity team. Participants will then have the opportunity to try some Water activities (canoeing/Kayaking/Stand Up Paddle boardingg) delivered by Loughmacrory Paddleclub and we will finish the session with some Open Water swimming, this will provide a taster for participants to try some open water swimming lead by our Swim Ulster Coaches, who will also provide tips and skills on how to behave in a safe and responsible manner in and around open water.

    What to bring:

    • Wetsuit is recommended,
    • Water & a small Snack
    • Towel and a change of clothes - Just to note there are toilets available on site, however there is no changing room facilities.

  • Fermanagh and Omagh District Council (FODC), partner organisations or coach associated with programme, session or activity delivery are not liable for any injury or harm that is sustained as a direct result of engagement with the programme, session or activity. Engagement is entirely at participant own risk. Participant should only engage in the programme, session or activity if fit and well to do so.

     

    All sites will be assessed up to 24 hours prior to delivery of any session. In the event that blue‑green algae (cyanobacteria) is identified at a waterbody during the programme period, all water‑based activities will be suspended in line with public health guidance. The programme will continue to operate, with sessions adapted to deliver water safety education and awareness talks on land. Where possible, advance communication will be issued to parents and guardians prior to programme commencement to advise of any changes to delivery arrangements.

  • Swimming ability Requirements

    For safety reasons, all participants attending the water safety course are required to have a basic level of swimming competence and must be able to swim at least 25 metres unaided.

  • In accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018, Fermanagh and Omagh Distrct Council has a duty to protect the information we hold on you. The personal information you provide on this form will only be used for the purpose of the programme you are attending. Information will be shared with relevant individuals, partner organisations and coaches (who may have been externally appointed to deliver the programme) to facilitate delivery. 

    Information will not be shared with any other organisations or individuals unless law or regulation compels such a disclosure.
