    Info: The 4rd Annual SWITCH event is an expansive and non-traditional community celebration of non-binary, trans + queer expression in the waves and on the beach.

    Registration Deadline: Registration closed once full, or by May 23rd, 2026

    Divisions and specialty heats:

    • Community-  non-judged heats of up to 6 surfers.  Surfers can choose if they’d like to surf once or twice.
    • Judged heats- this year we are offering a division for those who want their waves judged on a convention 1-10 scoring format (controversial?? 🤯🫢😬) The “top” surfers in each heat will advance to a heat of all the tops, and the “bottoms” will surf again in a heat of fellow bottoms.  Since this is the first time we are offering this at Switch, the exact format will be decided by how many people sign up. Registration numbers pending, tops will surf 2-3 times, and bottoms will surf twice. The second heat of bottoms may have up to 9 participants.  The final heat of tops will have 4-6 participants. 
    • Specialty heats- This year we are offering the following specialty heats: 
      • T4T - trans surfers 
      • Alternative surf crafts - hand planes, surf mats, body boards, SUP’s etc. You are also welcome to ride alt surf crafts in your community or judged heats 
      • Tandem surf-  2 or more surfers on one board
      • Relay-  Teams of 4 or 5 will be finalized the day of.  An array of surf crafts (some more common, some very unusual) will be lined up on the beach.  Teams will line up on the beach behind a cone. One surfer at a time from each team will grab an available board, catch 1 wave and ride it for at least 3 seconds.  They will then leave the board on the beach and tag their next team member.  The first team to have all of their surfers ride a wave gets a prize.  Each team can expedite the relay by having 2 of their members ride a wave tandem.  
      • Expression session & party wave-  Wear a look, or come as you are for the culminating expression session and party wave.  Soft tops only!

    Registration Fee: Sliding Scale $50-$169-  Registration includes a tshirt, lunch, snacks and a raffle ticket! This event is a labor of love and Queer Surf pays out to make it happen.  If your circumstance allows you to pay higher on the sliding scale, this will help cover the cost of the event and make Switch more sustainable!     We are asking for a sliding scale donation of $50-$150 to participate. If your financial situation enables you to pay higher on the sliding scale, this helps us get more queer and trans people to the beach and helps enrich this event.
