Dayspring Transportation/School Bus Rules
School Bus Rules
Learners will be assigned one bus stop. Parents/guardians are responsible for child(ren) at the bus stop. Once the bus arrives at the stop, and only at that time, does the learner become the responsibility of Dayspring Academy. Such responsibility shall end when the learner is delivered to the regular bus stop and the bus has departed, at the close of the school day. Each learner using that transportation must abide by the rules, which are established to insure the safety of all passengers.
When waiting for the bus, loading or unloading, learners must follow the Learner Code of Conduct. Bus drivers will report learners who violate the Learner Code of Conduct and break school bus rules to the school administration for appropriate disciplinary action. Administrators shall investigate and issue discipline accordingly. Behavior not directly observed at bus stops, but reported and confirmed by witnesses, may be acted upon.
An Elementary school parent/guardian, Secondary sibling, or designated party must be waiting at the Elementary school learner's bus stop every afternoon. Elementary school learners WILL NOT be dropped off alone at a bus stop if no one is waiting to meet them at the bus stop. This includes our bus stop at Calvary Chapel Worship Center. If the parent/guardian is not at the bus stop, the Elementary learner will remain on the bus and will be returned to our after school program, ACT II, located at our Elementary school campus, for after school care. Upon the second return to the ACT II program, parents will be charged for this after school care. A parent/guardian will be required to pick up and sign out the learner from the ACT II program between 5:15 PM and 5:30 PM.
If an Elementary school learner is not met at their bus stop by a parent or guardian more than 3 times per semester, the learner will be removed from the bus for the remainder of that semester and their seat will be given to a learner on the bus waiting list. They will be allowed to ride the bus the 2nd semester ONLY if there is a seat available.
Dayspring buses run at full capacity, therefore, we cannot accept requests to have a learner put on a bus for one day to go home with a friend or relative. If a learner, who is not a scheduled bus rider, arrives to school with a note from a parent/guardian giving permission to ride the bus home, the learner WILL NOT be allowed on the bus and the parent/guardian will be contacted to pick the learner up at their campus.
If your child is participating in any after school activity (including, but not limited to, play practice, Art club, Book club, etc), the parent/guardian MUST log into the PikMyKid app and indicate the days the student will not be riding the bus. If the transportation change is not reflected in PikMyKid by 2:20 PM for Secondary learners and by 3:00 PM for Elementary learners the day of the activity, the learner will be placed on the bus. No phone calls home are permitted. Please note there are no exceptions to this policy.
Violations of the Learner Code of Conduct shall result in disciplinary action, suspension of riding privileges, recommended bus expulsion and may result in referral to law enforcement. Teachers who chaperone bus trips will have the same authority and responsibilities as they have in the classrooms.
Parent conferences are not permitted while the bus is en route or stopped at a bus stop. Any conference that the parents wish to have with the bus driver must be scheduled with the school’s administration.
The following bus rules will be obeyed:
• The bus driver is in full authority and must be obeyed.
• Never run to or from the bus.
• Learners are required to obey driver’s hand signals when crossing the road.
• Learners are required to wear safety restraints, when they are available on the bus.
• General school rules will apply on the bus, although quiet talking is permitted.
• Learners will be at the bus stop five ten minutes prior to scheduled time.
• Learners will stand off the roadway while waiting for the bus.
• Wait for the bus to come to a complete stop before approaching the bus.
• Bus driver will tell learners when to get on the bus.
• Learners will refrain from cell phone usage when exiting the bus and crossing streets.
• Learners will board and leave the bus at their assigned bus stops unless other arrangements are made by written request of the parent and signed by the principal or designee.
• Learners will not distract the bus driver.
• Learners will sit properly and remain seated in their assigned seats while the bus is in motion.
• Learners will keep the aisle clear at all times.
• Learners will never push or shove other learners.
• Learners will keep all parts of your body inside the bus. Do not put any item or body part out the window.
• Learners will not yell, scream, or shout on the bus.
• Learners will not throw or project anything inside or out of the bus.
• Learners will not litter, mark, deface, or damage any part of the bus.
• Learners will sit in any seat assigned to them.
• Learners will not eat, drink, or smoke on the bus.
• The emergency exit will be used only in cases of emergency.
• No animals (dead or alive), glass or glass containers, sharp objects, ball bats, cutting
instruments, batons, drumsticks, or other objects that could become dangerous
projectiles during a sudden stop or accident will be allowed on the bus without prior
permission of the driver.
• Large objects (larger than learners can safely hold in their laps), including band
instruments, which interfere with seating and safety of others, will not be permitted on
the bus without prior permission of the driver.
• Learners will not exit the rear emergency door of the school bus, other than in an
emergency situation as determined by the bus driver.
• Learners will not engage in behaviors that could negatively impact the safety of those on
board the bus.
The above rules will also apply on extracurricular and field trips.
The following procedural interventions are recommended when appropriate:
• First offense: Parent contact and disciplinary action as decided by principal or designee.
• Second offense: Parent contact and possible 1-2 day loss of bus privileges.
• Third offense: Parent contact and possible 3-5 day loss of bus privileges.
• Fourth offense: Parent contact and possible loss of bus riding privilege for the semester.
The following may result in a recommendation for bus expulsion at any time:
• Exiting the rear emergency door.
• Any action that endangers the safety of anyone on or around the bus.
• Continuous disruptive behavior.
Severity of the offense, extenuating circumstances, and the attitude of the Learner and parent will be considered by school administration and may be discussed with the Director of Transportation before a final determination is made.
Bus Emergency Evacuation Procedures:
• Listen to the driver’s instruction for the correct exit.
• Be calm, quiet, and do not panic.
• Leave your belongings behind.
• Exit seat-by-seat alternating rows.
• Leave the bus quickly without pushing, or shouting.
• Walk to a safe place and stay together.
Please avoid the danger zone, which is the area covering 10 feet around the bus. The bus driver is unable to see you if you are in the danger zone and so it is very unsafe.
Dayspring 4301- It is the intent of Dayspring to ensure that transportation Is not a barrier for student access. Dayspring will provide transportation within a reasonable distance to its locations under 4301. Dayspring defines a reasonable distance being between two and three miles. In accordance with state policy, a bus stop within one and one half miles from a residence in the zone will be considered a reasonable distance.
Due to last minute student additions and changes, Dayspring does not change its bus routes during summer. Dayspring evaluates student needs the first two weeks of school and adjusts bus routes accordingly.
Students outside of a reasonable distance boundary will be served on a first come first serve basis. Students will be placed on a waiting list and provided transportation as space becomes available.
If transportation is not utilized during the first 5 days of school, or over a two week period thereafter, the transportation spot will be assigned to a student on the waiting list. The student removed from the transportation spot will then be added to the waiting list.
All new requests and change requests for transportation will take two weeks to process.
