Health Requirements
● Dogs who have recently had any procedure where stitches were used cannot be groomed until all the stitches have dissolved or have been removed. This is to eliminate the risk of grooming products irritating the incision site, as well as the risk of towels or grooming equipment getting caught on the stitches.
● All dogs entering the salon must have proof of current rabies vaccination. Due to being a cage-free salon located inside a day care and boarding facility, we also recommend being up to date on all other vaccinations including bordetella.
● For their own safety, pregnant or nursing dogs will not be groomed until at least 4 weeks after delivery.
● For their own safety, puppies under the age of 12 weeks will not be groomed.
● Dogs who have recently had infectious conditions will need vet clearance over the phone clearing them to be groomed. This is for their own safety and the safety of the other dogs in the salon.
● Pre-existing health conditions must be disclosed to the groomer on the grooming contract at the time of drop off. Groomers cannot be held liable if the grooming process exacerbates or triggers pre-existing health conditions.
● If your pet is sensitive to fragrance or any other ingredients common in grooming products you may request only hypo-allergenic products be used. We are not responsible for any allergic reactions or skin irritation due to unknown sensitivities or allergies.
● Senior pets are groomed at the risk of the owner. Utmost gentleness will be taken in the care of your dog; however, the grooming process can be stressful for some senior pets and can heighten pre-existing medical conditions.
Grooming Process
● Sometimes, matting is discovered only after bathing and blow drying. In these cases, groomers will do their best to honor your original groom requests, but your pet may need to be shaved short. If you do not approve your groomer to shave your pet in this case, you will be called to pick-up your pet and you will be charged for any work already done prior to ceasing the service.
● An incremental special handling fee between $5-$15 may be incurred if your pet poses additional risk or challenge to the grooming staff, such as attempted biting, excessive thrashing, or otherwise putting itself or grooming staff at additional risk of harm.
● If fleas are found on your dog at any time during the groom, you will be charged $25 for removal. In these cases, your dog will be bathed with a flea and tick shampoo to kill the fleas on them. This will be followed up by a medicated shampoo and conditioner to soothe the skin. However, this will not prevent fleas from returning to your dog once they leave the grooming salon. For this we recommend flea-and-tick treatment and ongoing preventative measurements.
● Grooming matted pets poses an additional risk for your pet. Our groomer will always treat your pets with care and be as slow and gentle as possible, however, minor nicks or skin irritation due to removing matted fur is possible. Shaving matted ears specifically poses a risk of hematomas (blood blisters) on the ears, for which Ultimate Doggie Destination is not responsible.
● If the groomer believes your dog’s ears to be showing signs of infection or too irritated to clean, they will not remove the ear hair and clean the ears. You will be notified if this is a case, and it is recommended that you visit a vet.
● The groomer has the right to cease your pet’s groom service and request pick-up if it becomes unsafe to groom them for any reason. This could be due to health concerns, aggressive behavior, etc.
● Dogs who are sent home partially through their groom for any reason will be required to pay for any work that was already done prior to ceasing the service.
Satisfaction
● If issues are due to a miscommunication between you and the groomer, the groomer will do everything in their power to fix the groom to your satisfaction, however, additional fees may apply.
● If you would not like your pet to be bathed before their groom for any reason, we will honor that request, however no discounts will be applied. This is because grooming a dirty coat causes more wear and can damage groomer equipment. Dirty coats are also more difficult to brush out, style, and groom.
