Thank you for your interest in leading as part of ArtsEd Washington! If you have questions, please review our ArtsEd website or email office@artsedwashington.org.
    • Section 1: Introduction to Leading with ArtsEd Washington
    • ArtsEd Washington is the coordinating backbone of the state’s arts education ecosystem—linking local practice with statewide policy to ensure every student has access to high-quality arts learning. Founded in 1983 as the Washington Alliance for Arts Education, we are a nonprofit organization rooted in the values of equity, advocacy, and collaboration.

We envision an educational system in Washington State schools where every student experiences a high-quality arts education regardless of their background or circumstances.

As a grassroots organization, our Board Members meet monthly, collaborate on small projects, guide the organizaitonal direction, and expand our reach. To enable representation throughout Washington, board work is designed to be carried out remotely, and anchored in your local community.

      Commitment to Equity:
At ArtsEd Washington, we believe that diversity enriches our organization and makes us more effective in achieving our mission of providing equitable arts education to students throughout Washington State.

We are committed to equal opportunity and inclusion regardless of race, creed, color, national origin, citizenship or immigration status, marital status, families with children (including pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions), sex, sexual orientation, gender, age, status as a protected veteran, honorably discharged veteran or military status, status as an individual with the presence of any sensory, mental, or physical disability or the use of a trained dog guide or service animal by a person with disabilities or other identifying characteristics. We encourage individuals of all backgrounds, identities, and locations throughout Washington State to apply for these positions.

    • Section 3: Board Member Basics
    • Board Members are leaders who volunteer their time and expertise to oversee the successful implementation of ArtsEd Washington’s Mission. Each board member brings their own valuable combination of life experiences and professional expertise.

In 2026, we'd like to continue expanding our representation in age range, race, gender, and geographic representation. We also want to continue strengthening our board with members who contribute through strategic planning/guidance and philanthropic/revenue stability.

Board members serve terms of approximately 2 years, starting in July
. Officer positions and subsequent board terms are available for those who want to extend their impact.

    • Section 4: Board Member Contributions
    • We appreciate your dedication to arts education, and your interest in serving on our Board. When submitting your application, please consider the following:

      • Mission-Alignment: Read through our Mission, Values, and programming, and confirm that your values are aligned.

      • Conflicts of Interest: We support shared efforts in our work, so the existance of a conflict of interst will not necessarily exclude a candidate from board service. Each year, all AEW personnel review and sign a Conflict of Interest form that guides organization procedures in the event of a COI. If you have specific questions about your connections, please email execd@artsedwashington.org.
