Equipment Requirements
The Community Climb Night event will include pre-established top rope routes for climbing, including ropes and spare belay devices. Climbers are expected to arrive with their own helmet, harness, climbing shoes, chalk and any other equipment required for climbing outdoors. Helmets are a required piece of safety equipment for the event, and must be worn while climbing. Experienced climbers are welcome to climb sport, and traditionally-protected routes as they like, and are expected to bring their own equipment to do so.
Experience Requirements
The Community Climb Night event series is open to climbers of all experience levels. Newer climbers, and those not familiar with outdoors roped climbing are asked to inform the Thunder Bay ACC section at minimum 24 hours in advance of your planned attendance. This will allow us to ensure there are adequate resources for you, and to arrange equipment rentals.
Equipment Rentals
For those climbers who require additional equipment, including shoes, harness, helmet and chalk, there are rentals available through partnership with Outdoor Skills and Thrills and their guide fleet of rental equipment. Please reach out to the Thunder Bay ACC section at minimum 24 hours in advance of your planned attendance to arrange these rentals.
Waiver Requirement
Participation in this activity is subject to the participant having signed the ACC Release of Liability, Waiver of Claims, Assumption of Risks Agreement (the “Waiver”). The Waiver is a legal document in which you waive or give up the right to sue or claim compensation following an accident. PLEASE READ IT CAREFULLY! Members participating in this activity do not require a separate Waiver. Your membership Waiver in place at the time of the activity will apply to your participation in this activity. If your membership renews prior to the activity taking place, you will be required to agree to a new Waiver upon renewal, this new Waiver will apply to your participation in this activity. By proceeding with the booking, you agree with the foregoing waiver terms. You can review your completed waiver by logging onto your profile at on the Alpine Club of Canada website.
Non-members participating in this activity will be required to review and agree to the Waiver prior to participating in the activity. The current version of the Waiver can be viewed HERE. The Waiver will be presented for completion at the start of the Activity.
Eligibility & Membership
This event is intended for Alpine Club of Canada (ACC) members. Please ensure your membership is active and that your waiver is current prior to attending. ACC waivers are valid for 12 months from the date of signing and apply to all ACC activities during that period.
Members
Participation in this activity is subject to you having a current membership and a current signed ACC Release of Liability, Waiver of Claims, Assumption of Risks Agreement (the “Waiver”), which is signed in conjunction with purchasing/renewing your membership.
A separate Waiver is not required. Your membership Waiver in place at the time of the activity will apply to your participation in this activity. You can review your completed waiver by logging onto your profile at on the Alpine Club of Canada website. If your membership renews prior to the activity taking place, you will be required to agree to a new Waiver upon renewal, this new Waiver will apply to your participation in this activity. By proceeding with the booking, you agree to the foregoing waiver terms. Bookings without a current Waiver at the time of the activity will be cancelled.
Guests / Non-Members
Non-members are welcome to attend one complimentary session. If you are not an ACC member and plan to attend, please notify us in advance so that a waiver can be completed prior to participation. An ACC Waiver is a condition of participating.
Waivers & Minors
- All participants must have a signed waiver on file before taking part in the event.
- For participants under 18 years of age, a parent or legal guardian must sign the waiver.
- Minors aged 13–17 must also be informed of the nature and risks associated with climbing activities.
- It is strongly recommended that a parent or legal guardian remain present during the event.
- Any exceptions (e.g., unaccompanied minors) require prior approval from the trip leader.
Safety & Conduct
The safety of all participants is our priority. No individual may participate while under the influence of drugs or alcohol in a manner that could impair their ability to climb safely. This includes legal and illegal substances, as well as certain over-the-counter or prescription medications. Trip leaders reserve the right to deny participation if impairment is suspected.

The risks, dangers and hazards associated with this particular ACC Activity are listed below. It is the participant’s responsibility to inform themselves of these risks, dangers and hazards prior to completing registration.
Hazards and Risk Awareness
Participation in climbing and mountaineering activities involves inherent risks. The following outlines key hazards and the measures in place to help reduce risk. Please review carefully prior to participation.
Activity Hazards – MUST READ BEFORE REGISTERING
Participating in this activity involves many risks, dangers and hazards that could result in injury, death, paralysis, property damage, or loss to me or other third parties. These risks, dangers, and hazards may include, but are not limited to those listed below. Please review them carefully before registering.
Terrain is uncontrolled, unmarked and not inspected, and may include:
- Cliffs
- Trees, forest deadfall, and tree stumps
- Creeks
- Rocks and Boulders
- Variable and difficult walking terrain
- Fences and other man-made structures
- Impact or collision with other persons vehicles or objects
- Extreme variation in trails or terrain
- Encounters with domestic or wild animals
- Loss of balance or control
- Slips trips and falls
- Becoming lost or separated from one's group
Rockfall
- Rockfall can be caused by natural forces, or by people travelling through the
terrain (e.g. climbing/scrambling/hiking).
Falls and Belaying
- Rock climbing presents the risk of falling from the wall causing the climber
to collide with the wall or ground, which can lead to injury or death
- The risk of belay failure is also present which can contribute to the risk of a
ground fall
- Equipment failure, including equipment associated with climbing,
rappelling and belaying
Communication, rescue and medical treatment
- Communication can be difficult and in the event of an accident rescue and
treatment may not be availableAdverse weather may also delay the arrival of treatment and transport out of
the field
- If an Injury occurs in challenging terrain movement to an evacuation point
may be slow
Personal Injury Includes:
- Sprains
- Strains
- Shock
- Stress
- Nausea
- Cuts
- Abrasions
- Fractured or broken bones
- Impalement
- Drowning
- Hypothermia
- Loss of limbs
- Sunstroke
- Sunburn
- Dehydration
- Illness
- Soft tissue injuries
- Neck, head and brain injury
- Paralysis
- Psychological injury
- Other injury to the body;
Other:
- Slips, trips and falls both outdoors and indoors
- Changing weather conditions including but not limited to High winds,
lightning, forest fires
- Effects of high altitude including pulmonary edema and cerebral edema
- Infectious disease contracted through viruses, bacteria, parasites, and fungi
which may be transmitted through direct or indirect contact
- Equipment failure
- Incomplete warnings or instructions
- Negligent first aid
- Negligence of other people, including trip coordinator and other guests
- Negligence includes failure on the part of ACC Guides (if applicable) to
take reasonable steps to safeguard or protect you from or warn you of
the risks, dangers and hazards of wilderness activities.
