Old Main and Hale Science are two of the oldest buildings on the CU Boulder campus (built in 1876 and 1894, respectively). A 2019 exterior condition assessment, conducted by the local Boulder office of national engineering firm Simpson Gumpertz & Heger, determined that both buildings required significant exterior masonry restoration. As a result of both analyses, Old Main recently received a full exterior restoration and Hale Science is in the process of reconstructing the grand entry stair while the building above is temporarily shored.
To see these restorations in action, attend a tour of both buildings, led by Peter Babaian (Senior Principal Engineer at Simpson Gumpertz & Heger) and Chris Sachs (CU Boulder Assistant Dean for Operations, Facilities, and Safety) on June 3rd at 6 pm, departing from the University Memorial Center. Due to space constraints on the active construction site at Hale Science, this tour is limited to 30 people and close toed shoes are required.
