Before geting started, head over to our website to understand a bit more about PTSW and our woodworking philosopy. Our mission is to inspire lifelong respect for craftsmanship and a passion for creating by offering diverse, safe, and excellent woodworking education for all. We acknowledge that we are on the ancestral homelands of the S’Klallam peoples. Native peoples have lived on and stewarded these lands since time immemorial, and continue to do so today.
Our Shared Values
While pursuing craftsmanship and creativity in woodworking, we hold each other accountable to our mission using a set of shared values. The PTSW values include Practice, Respect, Kindness, Safety, Sustainability, and Celebration.
- Practice: We gather at the school to become better woodworkers, and the way we do this is through education and practice.
- Respect: The school makes room for people of all identities, communities, and cultures, with our language and behaviors reflecting inclusion.
- Kindness: We are well-meaning and supportive of each other, and also ourselves.
- Safety: We learn and practice safe use of hand and machine tools. We keep ourselves and each other safe from injury.
- Sustainability: We cultivate respect for the life of a tree and its importance as a part of a complex ecosystem, beyond its use as a medium.
- Celebration: We are all doing something we love. We celebrate our successes as well as our failures.
We keep course sizes small, with a 12 student minimum for most courses, and larger for timber framing courses or community projects. We welcome instructors and community partners who can help us uphold these values and policies. If this sounds like a learning environment you can work well in, pleae complete the form and we will be in touch!
