dance Immersion is inviting Canadian Black-led dance groups to apply for the NEXT GEN Presentation at the inagural Immersion Festival 2026.
NEXT GEN offers Black-led studios/groups/programs for young performers the opprotunity to:
- Present their strongest pieces to the general public
- Promote their studios, classes, and programs to a new audience
- Connect with some of Canada’s renowned Black dance artists
- Further develop their students’ performance skills with an additional opportunity to perform for an audience beyond family and friends
- Receive an archival video recording and photos of their pieces.
The NEXT GEN Presentation will feature 10 youth dance groups, with each group performing in two shows.
PERFORMANCE DATES:
Saturday, November 14, 2026 at 7:30 PM
Sunday, November 15, 2026 at 2:00 PM
ELIGIBILITY & DETAILS
- Open to Black-led dance studios, groups, and programs across Canada
- Dancers must be between the ages of 10–21
- Each group may include up to 10 dancers (solos are welcome)
- Selected groups will present a piece 5–10 minutes in length
- Choreographers must identify as Black or of the African Diaspora (performers do not all need to identify as such)
- A $1,000 honorarium will be provided to each selected group
* Please note, this call is open to any Black-led dance group in Canada; however, dance Immersion cannot provide travel and accommodation funds.
PERFORMANCE INFORMATION
- Live or recorded music is permitted
- Due to the structure of the show, set pieces and digital projections cannot be accommodated
- Each group will receive a brief on-stage technical rehearsal to set spacing, lighting cues, and run their piece

- Submit a video of the exact piece you wish to present
- The choreography in the video must match what will be performed if selected
- Pieces may be extended up to 10 minutes for the performance
