    Howard Alumni United, Inc. exists to support and uplift Howard University by fostering alumni engagement, promoting student success, and advancing solutions that address community needs—while centering shared governance, transparency, and honorable leadership.

  • Call for Nominations

    Howard Alumni United, Inc. invites nominations for its 2026–2028 Board of Directors. We seek dedicated alumni leaders who are committed to service, strategic governance, and advancing the mission of HAU.

  • Howard Alumni United, Inc. Board of Directors Responsibilities

    1. Approve an annual report and budget during the Howard Alumni United, Inc. Annual Meeting. The budget must be approved by a 2/3 majority of the active HAU members present.
    2. Has the authority to audit financial records of the operating entity.
    3. Actively support membership solicitation.
    4. Participation: 
      • Attend and actively participate in monthly board meetings, designated committee meetings, electronic discussions, and/or conference calls.
      • Serve on at least one committee.
      • Support fundraising and membership growth.
      • Act as an ambassador for Howard Alumni United, Inc.
    5. The term of the Board is from the end of the Annual Meeting for a period of two years.
    6. Establish policies and procedures for the effective operation of the Board.

    Term:

    Officers shall serve two-year terms. The inaugural Howard Alumni United, Inc. Board of Directors meeting shall convene by no later than 60 days after the organization has seated its inaugural Board of Directors.

  • Nomination Criteria & Eligibility Requirements

    Eligibility Requirements:

    • Must have attended Howard University for a minimum of four semesters in good academic standing
    • In good standing with HAU 
    • Willing to commit to board service responsibilities
    • Must disclose any conflicts of interest
    • Demonstrates relevant professional or leadership competencies
      (Effective 2028: Must be a financial member of HAU for at least one year prior to nomination)

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Proven leadership experience
    • Prior board or governance experience (preferred, not required)
    • Experience in nonprofit, community, or organizational leadership
    • Demonstrated alignment with HAU’s mission and values
    • Expertise in areas such as finance, legal, communications, fundraising, education, IT, public affairs, or community engagement
    • Commitment to diversity across perspectives, backgrounds, and lived experiences
