  • Sports Medicine Emergency Management, LLC (SMEM) is approved by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) Sports Physical Therapy Council to satisfy the Acute Management of Injuries & Illness (AMII) requirement for the Sports Certified Specialist (SCS) credential.
  • The New Hampton School, in partnership with Sports Medicine Emergency Management, LLC (SMEM), are proud to offer the Advanced Sports Trauma Management Course (ASTM) for sports medicine personnel.

    This hybrid course combines virtual didactic sessions (12 contact hours) and in-person hands-on practical sessions (7 contact hours) to create an elite course for sports medicine practitioners looking to enhance their emergency management knowledge, skills, and abilities.

    The ASTM course is approved by the Board of Certification of Athletic Trainers (BOC) for up to nineteen (19) Category-A CEUs for athletic trainers and is approved by APTA and American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) Sports Physical Therapy Council to satisfy the Acute Management of Injury & Illness (AMII) requirement for the Sports Certified Specialist (SCS) credential.

     Course Dates-

    • Pre-Study / Virtual Didactic Material (12 contact hours)-  released beginning on May 15, 2026
    • In-Person Skills Practice & Scenario-Based Practical Skills Integration Simulation-  
      • Friday, June 19, 2026  (8:00am - 4:00pm)

    Program Location-

    • New Hampton School (New Hampton, NH)

    Program Objectives:

    At the end of the program, participants will be able to:

    • Identify and demonstrate the role of a sports medicine practitioner within the interdisciplinary healthcare team to improve patient outcomes.
    • Identify the role(s), characteristics, indications, contraindications, and precautions for managing the entire scene by relating critical interventions with scientific background for improved patient survival & implementing appropriate management techniques and agents in the prehospital setting.
    • Understand and demonstrate the process of delivering an EMS debriefing / hand-off report (MIST)
    • Demonstrate the proper sequence and implementation of critical decision-making skills.
    • Demonstrate effective skills related to emergency care, including, but not limited to, CPR, AED, emergency airway management & ventilation, orthopedic injury management, head injury & cervical spine injury management, truncal trauma, medical emergencies (e.g.  diabetic, asthma, anaphylaxis, abdominal injury, etc.), and/or mental health crisis management.
    • Describe techniques for implementing various emergency skills within the realm of sports medicine settings.
