The Dr. Bonnie J. Patterson (1944–2025) Excellence Award is established to honor the career and contributions to advancing the health and advocacy of individuals with Down syndrome and other developmental disabilities. As Director of the Thomas Center for Down Syndrome at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, Dr. Patterson provided exemplary clinical leadership distinguished by compassion, innovation, and a strong commitment to patient- and family-centered care. A respected leader within the Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics, Dr. Patterson’s influence extended nationally and internationally. She was a widely recognized educator and speaker, sharing clinical expertise and research to improve care for individuals with Down syndrome worldwide. As a co-author of the first medical guideline for children with Down syndrome, she helped shape proactive, standardized care practices that resulted in earlier identification of health conditions and improved life expectancy for these individuals. Her legacy endures through the families she supported and the clinicians she inspired.
