About the Dave Campbell Award

The Dave Campbell Award will be presented on August 6, 2026 at the Greater Waco Chamber's Kick Off Luncheon. This award is presented annually to someone who has made a significant impact on football in McLennan County.

Nominees should demonstrate a tremendous positive impact on the football community at any level, but who also go beyond by volunteering their personal time to give back to the community.

Presenting sponsor of the Kick Off Luncheon is Jim Turner Chevrolet.

About Dave Campbell

A Waco native and Baylor graduate, Dave Campbell became the sports editor of the Waco-Tribune Herald in 1953. Writing as many as five columns a week, Campbell spent the next 40 years in that position – covering all manner of sports and winning dozens of writing awards. Campbell is probably most associated with creating what has become known as “the bible” among the state’s football fans, Texas Football magazine. Founded in 1960 and put together on Campbell’s kitchen table, Texas Football has exploded in popularity, having grown from 96 to 400 pages with a circulation of more than 150,000.

Nomination Process

The Greater Waco Chamber's Executive Committee will review and score the nominations. Only those who win the award will be recognized; other nominees will not be disclosed.

Each nomination and supporting materials will be scored on their impact in the football community, as well as their leadership and impact in McLennan County.

Nomination guidelines:

Nominees may not be self-nominated

Nominees must be actively involved and/or have had an impact in the McLennan County football community

Nominees are committed to professional excellence and improving the community

Completing the Nomination:

You are encouraged to work closely with your nominee to complete your nomination. Nominations for the Dave Campbell Award must be submitted using this nomination form and format. You are encouraged to include supporting documents (articles, testimonials, etc) with your completed nomination form, as this is what will be used to score nominees.
