Code of Conduct
The IMPACT College Mentorship Program is a professional development experience designed to prepare students for the workforce through structured mentorship, skill‑building, and community engagement. As a mentee, you represent your college, the Chamber, and the Greater Arlington community. You are expected to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, accountability, and respect.
This Code of Conduct outlines the expectations required of all mentees.
Professionalism & Communication
- Communicate respectfully, promptly, and professionally with your mentor.
- Respond to messages within a reasonable timeframe and notify your mentor in advance if plans change.
- Arrive prepared for each meeting with questions, updates, and goals.
- Maintain honesty, integrity, and a positive attitude toward learning and growth.
Commitment & Reliability
- Attend all scheduled meetings and required Chamber events.
- Be punctual and prepared for every interaction.
- Follow through on tasks assigned by your mentor (resume edits, LinkedIn updates, interview prep, etc.).
- Engage fully in shaping your development - your mentor is a partner in the process, not the driver.
Boundaries & Safety
- Do not meet outside of a professional context or setting; all interactions must occur in appropriate public or designated program-approved locations. (ex: no meeting one on one over drinks)
- Same‑gender pairings are required and must be respected.
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries at all times.
- Do not request personal favors, financial assistance, or any form of inappropriate support from your mentor, including access to job-related perks or benefits.
- Do not share confidential or sensitive personal information beyond what is necessary for professional development.
Engagement & Participation
- Actively participate in discussions, activities, and Chamber events.
- Ask thoughtful questions and seek feedback to support your growth.
- Demonstrate professionalism at all Chamber functions — you are representing the program.
- Be open to constructive feedback and willing to adjust behaviors or habits as needed.
What the Program Is Not
- This program does not guarantee internships or job offers.
- Mentors are not required to make introductions, referrals, or recommendations.
- Mentors are not responsible for academic advising, personal counseling, or addressing personal or professional issues; their role is to provide guidance and serve as a sounding board.
Accountability
Mentees are expected to uphold this Code of Conduct throughout the program. Failure to meet expectations may result in the three‑strike policy, administered by the Greater Arlington Chamber of Commerce:
Strike 1: Warning and conversation
Strike 2: Formal review and improvement plan
Strike 3: Removal from the program
