What do you do to stay focused at work, reading a technical manual, or listening to a lecture? Do you chew gum, sip coffee/coke/ice water, tap your foot, listen to music, fidget, pick at your nails, or play with your hair?
These are just a few of the behaviors an adult might use in order to attain an appropriate state of alertness. It is important that adults understand what strategies their own nervous systems employ and what the relationship is between arousal states, attention, learning and behavior in a child’s life. This workshop provides an introduction to sensory processing, what it feels like to have a sensory processing difficulty and strategies to assist children in regulating themselves in order to maintain a calm, alert arousal level or a "JUST RIGHT ENGINE."
