New Member Application

Thank you for your interest in the Columbus Symphony Academy program!

Estimated completion time for this form is 30 minutes, plus the time it takes to record your audition. You can opt to save and complete the form later by clicking the "Save" button (you will receive an email with a link to continue your application). We will not receive your application until you hit "Submit".

This form is one component of the initial application process. All of the following components must be received for your Academy application to be complete:

You should always directly contact the person you are asking for a recommendation. Explain what you are applying for and if they would be comfortable recommending you.

If you have already done this and you have your teacher's email address, you can choose to have the form sent directly to them when you submit this application. OR you can request a link to the form so you can send it to them later.

Requirements

Scales

• Required: 1 major scale of your choice
• Optional: 1 or 2 additional major or minor scales of your choice
• Please play scales in as many octaves as you are able

Solo Selections (2)

• Technical Selection: May be fast, but should focus on precision and demonstrating good technique.
• Lyrical selection: Should show off your musicality, tone, and expression

How to choose your solo selections:

Solo selections can be anything that demonstrates the best of your playing ability, and should be no more than 8 minutes total combined time. Solo excerpts could be:

• Part of a standard solo piece
• An exercise from a method book
• Part of a band or orchestra piece you have learned in school
• CSYO audition excerpts (columbussymphony.com/csyo)

Tips for recording your video:

• DO NOT edit, crop, or audio enhance your videos with editing programs or software.
• Videos do not need to be professionally recorded and may be recorded and uploaded using a mobile device
• Introduce yourself by saying your full name, instrument, and what you will be playing at the beginning of the video, including composer names.
